Dear Robert,

As you may know, The American Legion has taken an active role in restoring trust between the veteran community and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in the wake of the VA healthcare scandal. To date, we have conducted six Veterans Crisis Command Centers (VCCCs) throughout the country. The VCCCs were designed to bring veterans and the VA together, and work to ensure that veterans are receiving benefits earned through their dedicated service. A town hall meeting is conducted to discuss concerns the veteran community has in the area pertaining to VA health care and disability benefits. Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation (VA&R) staff, department service officers, and accredited representatives assist veterans in filing claims for disability benefits. Additionally, employees from the Veterans Benefits Administration and Veterans Health Administration are available to address questions from veterans pertaining to related benefits.

During this year’s National Convention at Charlotte North Carolina, The American Legion will be hosting a VCCC. Below is the schedule for events associated with the VCCC at the Charlotte Convention Center.

  • August 25th: 7:00 PM – Town hall, rooms 209 and 210 (Ballroom Level)
  • August 26th: 12:00 PM-8:00 PM – VCCC, rooms 204 and 205 (Ballroom Level)
  • August 27th: 8:00 AM-8:00 PM – VCCC, rooms 204 and 205 (Ballroom Level)
  • August 28th: 8:00 AM-8:00 PM – VCCC, rooms 204 and 205 (Ballroom Level)
.

We encourage everyone to attend, to include members of your department’s delegation. This will provide an opportunity for members to raise questions and provide national headquarters staff with information regarding concerns in your departments.

We look forward to seeing all of you. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me, Zachary Hearn, at (202) 263-2985 or via email at zhearn@legion.org
