What they don't want you to know

Organizing for Action
Robert --

Have you heard about the deadline to sign up for health care? The new administration sure doesn't want you to know about it.

Each year around the final enrollment deadline, with so much at stake, officials usually try to make sure people know how to sign up for affordable health coverage. Suddenly, this time around, something's changed -- they're pulling all plans down and hoping no one notices they're going radio-silent. And it is completely outrageous.

Last night, the administration decided to trash outreach campaigns -- which tax payers have already paid for -- that are intended to help people get the health care they need. They don't want anyone to see them. This is a blatant attempt to sabotage the health care marketplaces that are saving lives.

Here's the good news: Together, we can do something about it.

January 31 is the deadline to sign up for Obamacare. We have just five days to make sure everyone hears about it. Join the rapid response team that is going to do just that.

As part of the team, we'll send you everything you need every day for the next five days to show that you won't let them hide insurance from people who need it -- and to help people get enrolled.

Congressional leaders are rushing to try to repeal Obamacare -- while all but admitting they won't be able to replace it -- and this new scheme is part of that effort. They know that if people get the care they need, their political effort to repeal Obamacare will be jeopardized.

But, with your help, we're going to be twice as loud as we've ever been. We're going to make sure that everyone they want to leave uninsured hears about the deadline and how to sign up on HealthCare.gov.

We've got five days to enroll as many people as possible.

Let's do this.

Join the team
Thanks,

Messina

What a week! Monday began with driving rain and gusty winds. By Wednesday, the sun was shining as temperatures reached the mid-60's. Rain or shine, though, one factor remained constant: record-breaking crowds at the Capitol. Daily public attendance has consistently topped 4,500. The halls and elevators are continually full of Virginians who are making their voices heard.

As a legislator, I truly appreciate seeing so many citizens visiting the seat of government here in the Commonwealth. A consistent theme heard from visitors is education. From early childhood to K-12 to higher education, Virginians expect a strong system of education. Here are just a few ways we are working to address this priority.

Early childhood: Delegate Jimmie Massie is carrying House Bill 1963, legislation making families with at-risk four year olds (who are not served by Head Start) eligible for tax credits to enroll in a pre-k program.

K-12: Did you know that in 2016 the House budget sent 31% of lottery funds--$272 million--back to local school divisions? This mechanism gives local schools more flexibility by not requiring matching funds or mandating how the funds must be spent. In regard to innovation, Delegate Dickie Bell is carrying House Bill 1400 establishing Virginia Virtual Schools so students are not bound to brick-and-mortar buildings for their education. Instead, they can take classes offered all over Virginia.

Higher education: College costs are soaring, and students are graduating with staggering debt. Delegate Kirk Cox is carrying House Bill 2427, legislation to incentivize students to complete their degrees on time. The bill increases financial aid funds as students progress through their academic career.
How much are you paying for healthcare?
With the cost of healthcare continuing to rise, consumers need tools allowing them to compare costs. I am pleased to share a resource for finding the average price of healthcare services. The Virginia Health Information Healthcare Pricing Transparency Report allows consumers to compare average prices of commonly performed procedures. Lear more by visiting www.vhi.org/HealthcarePricing.
Still time to visit!
Based on the number of visitors this week, I can only conclude that Virginians are accepting legislators' invitations to visit Richmond. As a longtime political acitvist, I'm excited to see so many voters engaged in the legislative process. A few of the visiting groups include:
  • AARP
  • Avalon
  • Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance
  • Home Educators Association of Virginia
  • Historic Virginia Land Conservancy
  • LEAD Historic Triangle
  • Military Officers Association of America
  • OneVirginia2021
  • Virginia Dental Hygienists' Association
  • Virginia Education Association
  • Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy
  • Williamsburg Area Transit Authority

As always, please remain in touch with me by email at DelBPogge@house.virginia.gov or by phone at 804-698-1096. If you find yourself in Richmond, my office is located in Room 403 of the General Assembly Building at the corner of 9th and Broad Streets.

Have a great weekend!

Should we repeal and replace the ACA?

Click here to visit my website

Dear Friend -

One of the most pressing issues facing Congress is how to proceed with repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act.

As you know, the House and Senate recently passed, and the President signed, legislation that begins the repeal process. But there are still crucial questions that must be answered about the replacement.

Proponents of repealing the ACA say that the law has failed to live up to its major promises and that premium increases and lack of access to care have hurt Virginians. Meanwhile, opponents of repeal point out that the law is working and that those who need insurance the most may lose it.

My view is that American people deserve a patient-centered system that favors quality and choice, not a government-centered system. That why I have cosponsored H.R. 277, the American Health Care Reform Act of 2017, legislation which repeals the Affordable Care Act and replaces it with healthcare reforms that ensure everyone has access to quality, affordable health insurance and that individuals have more choices to find a healthcare plan that works for them and their families.

But I want to know what you think.

Please take a moment to respond to the short survey below. Once we collect responses, I will contact you to report the results and lay out my thoughts on this critical issue.

Question: How should Congress proceed with repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act?

* Just repeal; worry about a replacement later

* Repeal but only if a replacement measure is in-place

* Do not repeal the law

* None of these/I don't know.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with me. Your opinion helps shape my thinking as I represent you in Washington.

Sincerely,

Rob

Robert, you're invited to Washington, DC

FreedomWorks

Robert,

Today we welcome Donald J. Trump as the 45th President of the United States. But make no mistake about it, today happened because of you.

On November 8th you and millions of Americans rose up and rejected the radical liberalism of Obama and Hillary Clinton. You rejected ObamaCare because you were fed up with paying more money for less care.

And now that we have a Republican controlled White House and Congress, we’re on the verge of repealing this terrible law once and for all.

But unfortunately that’s only half the battle. Replacing it is what really matters. And Robert, we’ve got to make sure it’s done right.

That’s why FreedomWorks is proud to announce the FreePAC: A New Rx for America Summit.

Get Your Tickets Today

On Saturday, March 11th in Washington, DC, we’re gathering together the leading conservative minds in the country to discuss how we can truly free ourselves from ObamaCare. To discuss how we’re about to undo an entitlement program for the first time in our nation’s history! But perhaps even more importantly, we’ll be talking about how we’re taking our country back.

Invited speakers include Vice President Mike Pence, Senators Rand Paul and Marco Rubio, businesswoman Carly Fiorina and Congressmen Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan!

Andrew Wilkow, host of the Wilkow Majority radio show, will be emceeing the event, and he’ll be joined by FreedomWorks Senior Economic Contributor and Trump Economic Advisor Stephen Moore who’ll be discussing how the free-market provides the best solution to our health care woes. The always inspirational Rev. CL Bryant will also be there to talk about how concerned citizens, like you, can play a vital role in shaping our health care system for generations to come. Get your tickets today!

Robert, make no mistake about it, the future of our health care system may be determined at this summit. That’s why FreedomWorks wants to gather together policy experts, Members of Congress, members of the new Trump Administration, and conservative citizens like you to discuss this critically important issue.

So Robert, if you want to be a part of history, if you want to have your voice heard at this important gathering, then you need to come to the FreePAC: A New Rx for America Summit.

But Robert, I’ve got to tell you, space is extremely limited and tickets are sure to go fast. So don’t delay, get your tickets today.
