Dear Friend of Hillsdale, What a year this has been! I hope it has been a good one for you, and that the family's Christmas holiday was blessed and joyful. As we head into the New Year -- not only a critical election year, but also the 170th Anniversary of Hillsdale College's founding -- we are planning to expand our educational outreach exponentially!
You likely have noticed some serious threats to American liberty that are on the horizon. We at Hillsdale have as well. But we also see many opportunities for us to fight back and advance the cause of liberty. Let me share four of them with you: Americans just experienced a national shockwave - the implementation of Obamacare. Contrary to the promises of those who sold it, many Americans can't keep their health insurance or their doctors under the new rules. This devastates millions of Americans, especially seniors on fixed incomes and Medicare, as many of your neighbors surely are. This national shockwave can't be spun by politicians or buried by the media. And that's a good thing! But as we enter 2014, it has never been more urgent for the College to expand its efforts to educate millions of people about the Constitution's importance to liberty in America. Obamacare is just one of many signs that centralized bureaucracy is incapable of good government. Others include the trillions in debt laid on future generations ... the soaring numbers of Americans on government aid, food stamps, and disability ... the high rates of underemployment and unemployment ... our broken immigration system ... America's declining world leadership ... and on and on. The failure of centralized bureaucratic despotism is plain for all to see. This, too, is an opportunity for Hillsdale to educate millions of Americans on the solution to this urgent crisis of American government: the restoration of limited government under the Constitution! You and I are not alone -- millions of Americans think as we do! I've met thousands of them across the land. I cannot thank you enough for the friendship you have shown to Hillsdale College. Many hold influential positions in state or federal office, and quietly (or not so quietly!) remind their colleagues that government is supposed to serve the People, rather than the other way around. Earlier this year Hillsdale sent a DVD set of the College's "Constitution 101" course and a copy of The Hillsdale College Constitution Reader to ALL of America's 7,800-plus state and federal elected officials. That includes your Governor, your U.S. Senators, and your U.S. Representative. So while many in the media try to downplay it, a growing number of Americans who support a return to limited government under the Constitution are rising up to act on behalf of liberty. Thank you for supporting the Hillsdale programs which are helping to expand this national movement! Amidst this reaction against the threat to liberty, more and more concerned citizens are joining you in supporting Hillsdale, enabling us to increase our capacity to advance liberty across the land. Hillsdale has just launched a "Rebirth of Liberty and Learning" capital campaign. This campaign includes the largest educational outreach for liberty in American history! We've already had over 700,000 registrants for our free online courses, including many policy makers and opinion leaders ... surpassed 2.7 million Imprimis subscribers ... broadcasted the "Constitution Minute" to tens of millions of radio listeners ... extended its educational mission on behalf of liberty to federal and state elected officials from coast to coast ... all with the goal of equipping fifty million of your fellow Americans to defend our founding principles. And in 2014, a critical election year, this nationwide educational mission becomes even more urgent. Hillsdale stands at the forefront of the movement to restore limited constitutional government in America. What other college -- of any size -- can say that? As you know, because we believe it to be destructive and unconstitutional, Hillsdale refuses all government funds - even indirect funds in the form of federal aid. This allows the College to preserve its independence without bureaucratic interference. That's how we have remained true to our mission for 170 years and it is the reason we are able to take a leadership role in defending liberty. My colleagues and I are grateful for your generosity, which helps make all this possible. Thank you! And now, because the time is right and the need is urgent, we're determined to do even more. Can I count on you, Friend of Hillsdale? You are the key to the success of our ambitious plans. Your generous tax-deductible gift before this year ends will make a real difference, enabling us to start the New Year ready to equip many more Americans to defend liberty in America. So today, while it's fresh in your mind ... before the December 31 IRS deadline ... please make your final 2013 tax-deductible gift to Hillsdale College. Thank you! Warmest regards, Larry P. Arnn President, Hillsdale College P.S. Ronald Reagan - who once said that "Hillsdale deserves the appreciation of all who labor for freedom," said the following in a speech in 1964:
Friend of Hillsdale, with friends like you standing shoulder to shoulder with Hillsdale, we preserve liberty for our children. Future generations -- including the family -- will enjoy the same blessings of liberty that we have in this great nation - "the last best hope of man on earth." I hope I can count on you to make a year-end tax-deductible gift today to support the College's efforts on behalf of liberty in 2014. Friend of Hillsdale, your tax-deductible gift mailed by the Dec. 31 IRS deadline helps Hillsdale advance liberty in 2014 - thank you! | ||||||
