| Dear Robert Bruce, Yesterday, IRS officials felt the heat from the House Ways and Means Committee, as they answered questions about the tax agency's targeting of Tea Party and conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status. In his opening statements before the committee, Treasury Inspector General J. Russell George said the allegations against the IRS for targeting conservative organizations, delaying applications and requesting unnecessary information are true. Acting IRS commissioner Steve Miller, who was asked by the White House Wednesday to resign, acknowledged in his early testimony that the extra "scrutiny" of Tea Party conservative groups began in March 2010 and that he learned of it on May 3, 2012. But the out-going Miller said he doesn't have the names of those responsible for targeting hundreds of right-leaning groups. Rep. Dave Camp (R-MI), the committee chairman, explained in his opening statement: "This is not a personnel problem. This is a problem of the IRS being too large, too powerful, too intrusive and too abusive." Even the ranking Democrat on the Ways and Means Committee, Rep. Sandy Levin (D-MI), asserted that Lois Lerner, the IRS' head of the tax exemption division, "should be relieved of her duties." + + Grassroots Outrage Is Building -- Take Action!
