It's time to end the IRS | FairTax Friday

It's Time To End The IRS

“If we don't do something to simplify the tax system, we're going to end up with a national police force of internal revenue agents.”  - Leon Panetta

I’m not sure when Mr. Panetta said this, but given the expanded role of the IRS as Obamacare enforcer, I doubt he knew how prophetic his admonishment would become. The IRS is now exceeding the bounds of taxation - now becoming the federal police force for broad legislative enforcement.

Folks, the time has never been more critical to make the case for the FairTax® as a replacement for the income tax system in America.

The House Ways and Means Committee is undertaking what Chairman Camp refers to as “comprehensive tax reform.” The Washington Post reports Illinois Representative Peter Roskam, a member of the Ways and Means Committee said, “You start with a clean sheet of paper and say: What would a tax code look like if you were going to design it from the ground up?”

Rep. Roskam, there is a plan and it is ready to go – today.

It has $20 million of research, 80 economist and 63 co-sponsors in the U.S. House and 7 co-sponsors in the Senate – more than any other tax reform plan before you. It is called the FairTax and it is the only tax replacement plan that is fair, simple and will create desperately needed jobs and stimulate the economy. More importantly, it is the only tax reform plan that will eliminate the IRS.

Those of you sharing your emails, letters and phone calls to your elected Representatives hearten me.  I do read your messages and I thank you, thank you, and thank you. Please don’t stop. You are having having an impact – you are making a difference! The FairTax will become reality when enough people like you choose to elect and hold their elected representatives accountable for passing legislation like the FairTax plan.

This is our challenge.

Constantly communicating your expectations as a constituent. Constantly holding your elected representatives accountable. And, when they do not represent you, finding and supporting individuals who will. It is that simple - democracy in action. You have a megaphone. You have power. You have a voice. Find and use it.  Use it for the FairTax plan.

Here examples of how others are using their voice for the FairTax.

FAST President and Regional Director, John Collet participated in a meeting this week hosted by Kansas District 2 Representative and Ways and Means member Lynn Jenkins, who sought to solicit constituent concerns and ideas about current tax reform efforts before Congress.

John was given an opportunity to address attendees and centered his remarks on the positive  impact the FairTax will have on jobs, reducing complexity and ensuring fairness for all. In discussing the issue of complexity, he suggested that any form of income tax with Congress is “like taking a confirmed alcoholic to a cocktail party. We tried that twice in 1913 and 1986, and since 1986, there have been over 15,000 changes.” Great job John!

FairTax Bar Association

FairTax Bar Association

Jim Bennett, FAST Volunteer Board Member and Regional Director, is forming a FairTax Bar Association. The defined purpose of the association will be “to educate the bar and the public about the Fair Tax Act of 2013 ("the Act"), and any successor legislation, and to enhance the quality of the practice that is expected to develop under the Act.”

One of the first projects this group may consider is a CLE-quality curriculum and a FairTax presentation for delivery to various bar groups. If you are admitted to the bar, have a genuine interest in advancing the FairTax and would like to be a part of this exciting new group contact Jim at: james@jamesbennett.com

Northwood University FairTax Group

Northwood University, in Midland, MI, develops future leaders for a global, free enterprise society.  Last November, Northwood hosted a major tax reform symposium that featured AFFT Co-Founder and CEO Leo Linbeck, Jr. and other distinguished panelist who discussed the FairTax, Flat Tax and the income tax in relation to fundamental tax reform.

From that event, Northwood student Harry Flotemersch led a team that established Northwood’s first Students for FairTax:  Northwood Chapter. This spring, Flotemersch and Nicholas Langlois formed a student team that created a bi-lingual video introduction for both the English and Spanish versions of our FairTax video: Fire Up Our Economic Engine. This student-produced introduction will go a long way in advancing the FairTax with 18-35 year old individuals. AFFT wants to express our deepest appreciation to these Northwood students for their outstanding work and dedication to the FairTax!

Finally, to those of you who made a $23 donation last week, please accept our most grateful appreciation.

The FairTax Act In The News

The poor will not suffer under the Fair Tax; neither will othersTri Cities

Some clarification of the Fair Tax is in order. I have read from several forums where people say the poor and middle class will suffer. The poor and middle class are not put into hardship with this transparent tax. In fact, these two groups are better off with Fair Tax because they will have more spending money and can choose when to pay taxes.

How would these groups make out under the Fair Tax?

First, by having all of the money in their paycheck.

Second, the prebate provides money back up to the poverty level for the person and family. The prebate is based on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. For a family of four, the prebate amount is $7,135, or $595 monthly.

Thus, the family has their full paycheck plus $595 a month for new products and services. This money is to offset the tax on basic needs, such as food and clothing. Remember, used products are not taxed. Every-one would receive the prebate based on family size and not income…

FairTax Plan is fair and intelligent solutionThe Citizen

…This nonpartisan legislation (HR 25/S122) abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax - administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities. The IRS is disbanded and defunded. The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend on new goods or services, not on what we earn. The FairTax is a fair, efficient, transparent, and intelligent solution to the frustration and inequity of our current tax system.

While Congress fumbles the ball on the economy by continuing to waste more tax dollars they don't have to stimulate the economy. Ask yourself. If the Fair Tax is implemented and every worker in this country receives their full paycheck plus the planned prebate without any deductions, wouldn't that be a tremendous stimulus to the economy? If every business never has to file another tax return and pay income taxes ever again, wouldn't that be a tremendous stimulus?...
