FW Morning Update: Don't Let Obama Upset the Balance of the Supreme Court

Hey Robert!

1. Don't Let Obama Upset the Balance of the Supreme Court - by Adam Brandon via TheBlaze

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has promised to hold the line on the president’s Supreme Court nominee, as duty to his party and his country dictates he must. It is crucial that there be no hearings, no votes, not even a whiff of consideration for a new nominee until after the election.

Never in American history has the ideological balance of the Supreme Court hinged so sharply on an election year nomination fight. To concede to the president now would be to concede the entire judiciary to the progressive left. Read more here...

3. Small Businesses in Alaska Support Forfeiture Reform - by Jason Pye

A civil asset forfeiture reform bill currently working its way through the Alaska House of Representatives has gotten a boost from the state chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business. The organization, which promotes small businesses, see the threat posed by business owners through Alaska's terrible civil asset forfeiture laws.

According to a recent report from the Institute for Justice, state and local law enforcement in Alaska can seize property based on probable cause and, in a perversion of justice, property owners in Alaska must prove by a preponderance of the evidence that their property is not connected to a crime to get it back.  Read more here...

4. Generational Theft: Lack of Social Security Reform in 2016 - by Mallory Reader

Social Security funds are set to dry up by the year 2034. In an election cycle with a focus on foreign affairs, national security, and the economy and jobs, Social Security reform has largely remained off the radar. As a millennial paying into this program fully knowing I will never receive its benefits if the system continues its course, I decided to dig a little deeper into the candidates’ positions on this topic.

Hillary Clinton

According to Hillary Clinton’s campaign website, Social Security “has been America at its best” for 80 years. Mrs. Clinton plans to not only expand Social Security, but also fight any effort to privatize it. She proposes tax increases for highest-income Americans – exceeding the current Social Security cap – and taxing areas of their income that are not currently accessed by the system. In order to fight the poverty rate of widowed women over the age of 65, Mrs. Clinton would like to reduce the benefit cuts that occur when a spouse dies. Read more here...

5. FreedomWorks: ObamaCare Isn't an Achievement; It's a Disgrace

FreedomWorks today marked the sixth anniversary of ObamaCare being signed into law. Repealing ObamaCare and replacing it with patient-centered reforms remains a top legislative priority of FreedomWorks and our community of grassroots conservative activists.

“The American health care system is worse off today than it was six years ago, when President Obama signed ObamaCare into law. The administration and those friendly to it like to say that ObamaCare is one of this president’s greatest achievements. It’s not an achievement; it’s a disgrace,” said FreedomWorks CEO Adam Brandon. “Since ObamaCare became law, millions of Americans lost the health insurance coverage and health care providers that they had and liked, despite dozens of promises by this president and those in his party that they would be able to keep them. They were lied to.”

“Americans who aren’t offered coverage through their employer and purchase insurance plans through the ObamaCare exchanges face higher premiums, large deductibles, and narrow provider networks. Today, some health insurers are pulling out of the exchanges because of financial losses, a dozen insurance cooperatives created by this law have folded, and Americans are faced with more spending and more debt,” Brandon continued. “The law also assaults religious liberty and freedom of conscience by forcing organizations, such as Little Sisters of the Poor, to violate beliefs and teachings – this very issue was argued before the Supreme Court today. These shortcomings of ObamaCare are only the tip of the iceberg.”  Read more here...
