Finally, we are eagerly awaiting news on who will replace Chairman Dave Camp on the House Committee on Ways and Means in the 114th Congress. Rep. Paul Ryan (WI-1), who advocates his own tax reform plan, and Rep. Kevin Brady (TX-8), an outspoken advocate for the FairTax and a co-sponsor of HR 25, The FairTax Act, are the contenders. Politico speculates the Chairmanship decision may be made later next week. We also expect there may be some changes in the membership of the committee based on the recent elections. We will keep you informed. Until next week,

The FairTax In The Media Dave Brat ready to start work after swearing-in Wednesday - The Roanoke Times Dave Brat will be sworn in at the Capitol in Washington this evening, taking office as the 7th District's new representative in time for the lame-duck session of Congress... In January, Brat will return to the new Congress with a small head start in seniority over others in the freshman class. "I will focus on keeping the promises I made during the campaign, including sponsoring or co-sponsoring bills to repeal or defund Obamacare in the House, to pass a flat or fair tax, and to secure the southern border," Brat said. Simpler and fairer taxation, anyone? - Providence Journal ...Our nation's federal tax code is insanely complex. It contains 73,954 pages (as of April 15), meaning that virtually no one would ever attempt or bother to read the entire thing. For many taxpayers, complying with this monstrosity requires the hiring of costly professionals or hour after hour of stressful work and wasted time. That tax code is complex on purpose — and not to serve the common good. It is designed to benefit politicians who receive campaign contributions or collect votes in exchange for tax breaks. Many of us would love to simplify and reform the process. Some support switching to a FairTax. This would be a national sales (or consumption) tax that would replace U.S. federal income taxes, gift taxes and estate taxes. It would also eliminate the Internal Revenue Service, which wouldn't cause most people to shed any tears, other than tears of joy...
