From the Desk of: Steve Elliott, Grassfire Please read this message to the end. It's dark out there. But there is hope. We can make it through this season of political darkness. --Steve Patriot, Last week, I shared with you my thoughts on why we lost the debt ceiling/government closure debate. Hundreds of team members responded and posted their thoughts as well. I closed that message saying that I would be contacting you with some specific thoughts on how we, as patriotic conservatives, can move forward and fight to win another day. Then I received an email from a very close friend who had just read my message. He wrote: "I know that this is what you live and fight for every day, but I'm getting to the point where I don't see any hope of influencing anyone in D.C. to change their ways. They're all corrupt." He continued: "I agree with your assessment. ... I'm embarrassed to call myself a Republican these days because, as you stated, they don't represent my conservative ideals." + + It's Dark Out There I think a lot of people echo my friend's sentiments: "I don't see any hope. ... They're all corrupt." Is there hope? As you may recall, about a year ago -- immediately following the November election -- I wrote an email that I later published as a resource called Thriving In Exile. My premise was that Obama's re-election had thrust us conservatives into a time of political exile. The exile would be difficult, but we could still thrive if we learned from a 2,500-year-old letter to Jewish exiles. Fast forward a year, and the reality of exile is settling in. In the past few days, we've faced the fact that even slowing down ObamaCare will be extremely difficult, and our efforts in opposition to the President's agenda will result in us being labeled as dangerous "extremists" -- even "terrorists." In our minds, we're part of the remnant faithful patriots who are working to save our nation from economic, political and cultural destruction. In Obama's mind, we are unpatriotic obstructionists, who don't even have a right to speak out. It's dark out there. And it might get darker before the first light of day. + + There Is Hope In The Night I'm not going to paint a rosy scenario for you that everything is going to turn around in the short run. In my home state of Virginia, all the polls indicate that a BFF of Bill and Hillary Clinton is going to win the gubernatorial race over a solid, principled conservative. The fact is, night has settled in -- and we're in the fight of our lives! But there is hope. A few weeks ago, as I pondered our moment in American history, I could sense that patriotic conservatives were getting more and more discouraged. This is a dangerous trend because it can result in a retreat to isolationism that could accelerate our nation's slide. Last year, after the election, tens of thousands of people found hope from Thriving In Exile. But exile is always tougher than we first imagine -- especially when the night seasons settle in. So, I sat down and started writing again. + + How To Thrive Through The Night The result is "Part Two" of the Thriving series, designed to help patriotic citizens keep moving forward during the dark seasons of exile. It's called Thriving Through The Night. In this new resource, I talk openly about my own "night seasons" of life -- those times when, like my friend said in his email, you "don't see any hope." Let's face it -- exile is tough. Whether it's a political exile like we're facing right now or a personal crisis that has left you with nothing but questions, your world can feel very dark. Thriving Through The Night is the most personal, most heart-wrenching and most difficult resource I have ever written. Yet, it could be the most important because we simply must make it through these tough times and the tough times just ahead. + + Two Copies Plus A Bonus Gift In appreciation of your contribution of any amount to help Grassfire build during this season, we will send you two copies of Thriving Through The Night plus a special bonus copy of Thriving in Exile. Exile almost always leads to night seasons. This is when our faith and our resolve to build and plant and bless and pray is challenged the most. It's at these precise moments when we must find the inner courage to stand. So much is at stake. Our very way of life is being threatened like at no other time in recent history. And politicians are actually calling us "domestic enemies" -- comparing the Tea Party to terrorists. But there IS hope. We CAN shine a light through the darkness. We can Thrive Through The Night. Finally, thank you. Thank you for your faithfulness and for all you do to stand for truth in this great land. Steve P.S. This week, I will be finalizing the manuscript for Thriving Through The Night.
