| Robert -- For nearly 50 years, Medicaid and Medicare have helped millions of Americans retire with peace of mind -- but neither of those programs came easily. In fact, the 1960s fights to secure a stable future for retirees are reminiscent of the battles we see surrounding health care today. Back then, opponents attacked Medicare as a threat to freedom -- warning that expanding health care coverage would have dire consequences.
