(1 Kings 9, 13) For ten months now, Americans have been trapped in a nationwide, misinformation-induced panic attack over a virus, the communicability and deadliness of which is more bark than bite. A new visitor to our country might deduce that we are in the midst of an Ebola, Smallpox or Necrotizing Fasciitis (flesh-eating bacteria) epidemic. COVID-19, labeled "pandemic" before two-dozen Americans had contracted the illness, has been empowered by state governors to control every aspect of our lives. Bureaucrats who have participated in the operation ought to be brought up on charges for manslaughter, for herding the elderly into "cattle car" retirement homes where they were more susceptible to infection, and for blocking access to Hydroxychloroquine, a known prophylactic and aid to full recovery from Coronavirus. They have used the virus to force shutdowns, close or force businesses into bankruptcy, force wearing of masks (which do nothing), increase unemployment and income loss, and cause depression and suicide. Why are we putting up with this mania? More importantly, why are churches submitting to arbitrary executive action that is unlawful on its face, and clearly transgresses Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black's "inviolable wall of separation between Church and State?" I have a question: Who is the Head of the Church? That was an easy one. If you said "Jesus," I have a second question: What has he said about "the forsaking the assembling of ourselves together?" I don't see a lot of wiggle room in "Do not..." Unless you show chapter and verse that prove Hebrews 10:25 was optional, you may want to resume services. Why is all of this happening? I am convinced God is testing the Church in America to find out what we are made of. If we will obey a governor over the Head of the Church, and disobey a Divine injunction as seemingly insignificant as meeting together regularly, how can he entrust anything to us? So far, I believe we are failing the test. This is a time for choosing! Paul wrote, For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7) Jesus said, Upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Pandemic illness is easily Preventable Puritan John Winthrop (1588-1649) First Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony 'A Modell of Christian Charity' (Excerpt) Written on board the Arbella Exactly two weeks from today, on Tuesday November 3, every evangelical Christian in America, those who vote and those who choose not to vote, will choose between "life and good, and Death and Evil." Each would do well to meditate upon the words of Puritan Governor John Winthrop in "A Modell of Christian Charity" which he delivered in 1630 to the Puritan passengers and crew on board the Arbella, in this, the 400 year anniversary of another Puritan landing twenty years earlier in 1620, at Plymouth Rock in Massachusetts. The Lord hath given us leave to draw our own articles. We have professed to enterprise these and those accounts, upon these and those ends. We have hereupon besought Him of favor and blessing. Now if the Lord shall please to hear us, and bring us in peace to the place we desire, then hath he ratified this covenant and sealed our Commission, and will expect a strict performance of the articles contained in it; but if we shall neglect the observation of these articles which are the ends we have propounded, and, dissembling with our God, shall fall to embrace this present world and prosecute our carnal intentions, seeking great things for ourselves and our posterity, the Lord will surely break out in wrath against us; be revenged of such a sinful people and make us know the price of the breach of such a covenant. Now the only way to avoid this shipwreck, and to provide for our posterity, is to follow the counsel of Micah, to doe justly, to love mercy, to walk humbly with our God. For this end, we must be knit together, in this work, as one man. We must entertain each other in brotherly affection. We must be willing to abridge ourselves of our superfluities, for the supply of other's necessities. We must uphold a familiar commerce together in all meekness, gentleness, patience and liberality. We must delight in each other; make other's conditions our own; rejoice together, mourn together, labor and suffer together, always having before our eyes our commission and community in the work, as members of the same body. So shall we keep the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace. The Lord will be our God, and delight to dwell among us, as his own people, and will command a blessing upon us in all our ways. So that we shall see much more of his wisdom, power, goodness and truth, than formerly we have been acquainted with. We shall find that the God of Israel is among us, when ten of us shall be able to resist a thousand of our enemies; when he shall make us a praise and glory that men shall say of succeeding plantations, "the Lord make it like that of New England." For we must consider that wee shall be as a city upon a hill. The eyes of all people are upon us. So that if we shall deal falsely with our God in this work we have undertaken, and so cause him to withdraw his present help from us, we shall be made a story and a by-word through the world. We shall open the mouths of enemies to speak evil of the ways of God, and all professors for God's sake. We shall shame the faces of many of God's worthy servants, and cause their prayers to be turned into curses upon us till we be consumed out of the good land whither we are a going. I shall shut up this discourse with that exhortation of Moses, that faithful servant of the Lord, in his last farewell to Israel, Deut. 30. Beloved there is now set before us life and good, Death and evil, in that we are commanded this day to love the Lord our God, and to love one another, to walk in his way and to keep his Commandments and his Ordinance and his laws, and the articles of our Covenant with him, that wee may live and be multiplied, and that the Lord our God may bless us in the land whither wee go to possess it. But if our hearts shall turn away, so that we will not obey, but shall be seduced, and worship and serve other Gods, our pleasure and profits, and serve them; it is propounded unto us this day, we shall surely perish out of the good land whither we passe over this vast sea to possess it; Therefore let us choose life that we, and our seed may live, by obeying His voice and cleaving to Him, for He is our life and our prosperity.
