But we still have a lot of work to do to make sure all Americans have access to affordable health care. Here are some highlights of the Vice President’s plan: Give Americans the choice to buy into a public option like Medicare or keep their private insurance. Provide premium-free access to this public option -- with the full scope of Medicaid benefits -- for people who would otherwise qualify for Medicaid, but were denied access by governors and state legislatures. No family -- regardless of income -- buying insurance on the individual market will have to pay more than 8.5% of their income on premiums. Premium tax credits will be calculated to help more families afford better coverage with lower deductibles. Allow Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices. Stop prescription drug corporations from profiteering off of the pocketbooks of sick individuals. End pharmaceutical corporations’ tax break for ad spending. Improve the supply of quality generics. Expand women’s access to contraception, protect their constitutional right to abortion, and reduce the maternal mortality rate. Defend health care protections for all, regardless of gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation. Achieve mental health parity and expand access to mental health care. Our plan will address systemic inequities to ensure every American receives the care they need and deserve. But we need your help to take this plan to the White House.
