It’s beyond belief that any member of Congress can continue to promote Trump’s health care bill that’s projected to make 23 million people lose their healthcare, but they do!!
23 million? Really? The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office just released their score yesterday on Trumpcare (a.k.a. American Health Care Act/AHCA) and one thing is clear: If passed by the U.S. Senate, it would be devastating to families and the economy.
In fact, if passed, not only would an estimated 23 million more people become uninsured by 2026, families across the country would be forced to pay more for basic coverage, and those with pre-existing conditions would likely be priced out of the market entirely. [1]
*Sign on now! Tell your U.S. Senators: Not on our watch! The AHCA/Trumpcare is a threat to our children, families, and economy—and the moms and dads of America will not stand for it!
We need you to speak out! The extremists in Congress are hoping to wear us down, but moms just keep at it. We keep going for the sake of our kids. And when it comes to health care—and the lives of the people in this country—Congress should be working to make sure every person has access to the coverage and care that they need, not the opposite.
Instead, they’ve proposed gutting our nation’s cherished and highly effective Medicaid program and rolling back protections gained under Obamacare (a.k.a. Affordable Care Act/ACA), all to give enormous tax breaks to the wealthy (individuals, insurance companies, and pharmaceutical companies). [2]
The proposed cuts to Medicaid are disastrous and would mean that millions of families, mothers, children, and the elderly would lose their insurance. [3] And families with health insurance through the individual market would see their costs skyrocket. [4] These impacts would be particularly severe for women of color and women in rural areas. In fact, Medicaid has long played an even larger role in providing health coverage and paying for care in rural areas than in urban areas. Nearly 1.7 million rural Americans have newly gained coverage through the Medicaid expansion, many of them women. [5]
To be clear, the enactment of the AHCA/Trumpcare would be an absolute crisis for our economy and nation, particularly for those who are in vulnerable communities, including: low-income families, people with disabilities, rural communities, and the elderly; with a compounding impact in Black, Latinx, Asian, Native American, and LGBTQ+ communities. [6]
*Our voices are making a difference! We are hearing that many members of Congress are very nervous about how voters will react when they lose their health care coverage. We need everyone to speak out! Send a message to your U.S. Senators to keep the ACA in place. http://action.momsrising.org/sign/protect_ACA_reject_AHCA/?t=9&akid=9204.847037.foiPPP
Some members of Congress are out of touch not only with their constituents, not only with real families, but also with the foundational principles of what’s made our nation great: People and communities caring about each other, and the diversity of our nation, is what has made our nation strong, innovative, and prosperous; not the opposite.
Health care security is integral to our freedom to pursue the American Dream, which includes big decisions like when and how to start a family. Trumpcare builds a wall between millions of low-income women and their doctors by defunding Planned Parenthood, as many low income women have no other health care provider. [7] Families need stability and reliability in their health care coverage!
The Congressional Budget Office just released their latest assessment of Obamacare's repeal, and it isn't good for the millions of families depending on this law.
Pete --
When I was 9 years old, I developed a serious illness similar to spinal meningitis -- it put me in the hospital for months.
I was raised by my grandparents and I would eventually make a full recovery. But when they looked for an insurance policy that would cover me in the future, they couldn't find such a policy because of my previous illness. Not from any insurer. Not at any price.
My grandparents were forced to make great sacrifices to pay for my health care simply because I was a child who had been branded with the words "pre-existing condition."
Pete, no parent, or grandparent, should have to lay awake at night wondering whether or not they can afford to care for their loved ones, and I am committed to protecting every American I can from having to experience what they did.
Health care is bigger than politics, it's about people's lives, and the chaos and uncertainty that would follow Obamacare's repeal would be devastating for American families.
More than 20 million people have gained coverage under Obamacare, and the uninsured rate has never been lower. But according to the Congressional Budget Office's latest analysis, you could be forced to pay more for less care or you could be at risk of losing health care coverage altogether.
Any effort to improve our health care system must protect the guaranteed protections and care that people with pre-existing conditions and others have today, not take them away.

Obamacare is Failing Last week, another major insurer left Obamacare-meaning even more states are down to just one insurer on the exchange. In fact, more than half of the states in our country have at least one county with only a single insurer on the exchange. That's leaving families with fewer choices and even higher premiums.
It's well past time to find a solution that ensures all Americans have access to quality, affordable care. I will continue to advocate for patient-centered health care and will support real solutions to rising health care costs.
FBI Regardless of what they are saying today, Democrats have continually called for Director Comey to be fired over the past six months. Multiple federal entities are currently and independently conducting Russia investigations, including the Senate Intelligence Committee. Chairman Burr and Ranking Member Warner have repeatedly demonstrated they are working together to uncover all of the facts, and I have no reason to believe they won’t.
I also do not believe that the Director’s dismissal will affect how the FBI carries out its investigations, and I have full confidence in the brave men and women serving our nation every day at the FBI. I look forward to the Senate Intelligence Committee’s report, and to reviewing that and any findings made by the FBI at the conclusion of their investigations.
3rd Annual Advocates for Character and Education Awards Last Friday, I had the opportunity to speak at the 3rd annual Advocates for Character and Education Awards (ACE) in Greenville. ACE honors middle and high school students who have overcome great odds and continue to strive for success. The students’ stories were remarkable and their perseverance despite hardships commendable. It was truly an honor to spend the evening with them.
Happy Belated Mother’s Day!
Growing up, my mom taught me that if you shoot for the moon, and you miss, you’ll be among the stars. I hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day! Here’s a video of me thanking my mom, Frances Scott, and all the moms out there who sacrifice so much for their families!
Sincerely,
Tim
