Repeal and Replace?

#5Actions - We persisted & we won! :)
Dear Rob,
We did it! Because you raised your voice, made calls, signed petitions, sent letters, shared your story, went to Town Halls, took action — along with hundreds of thousands of other people across the nation and across multiple organizations — you stopped a horrible healthcare bill in it’s tracks. Thank you!
We won that battle, but the fight is still on to make sure everyone in our nation has a chance to thrive. In good news: We have proof that your voice is powerful. And MomsRising is at your service finding the very best ways, and most strategic avenues, for you to have an impact.
So below you’ll find the Top #5Actions of the week. You can do all five of the actions on one day, or spread them out across the week, your choice. The important thing is not WHEN you do them, but IF you do them. And if you do them, your actions will add up with others, and you're sure to have an impact.
1. WE PERSISTED & WE WON! Share The Joy! Celebrate our big win on health care via social media (Facebook & Twitter) to show people that their voice is powerful — and to inspire people to #KeepMarching!
—> ACTION: Click the buttons below to share the happy news on Facebook & Twitter — and to inspire people to take action in the future.
BACKGROUND: We persisted—and it worked! Last week, we won a major health care battle. The U.S. House had to pull the incredibly destructive American Health Care Act (AHCA) from the floor because they didn’t have the votes to pass it. VICTORY! If passed, this bill would have cut 24 million people off health care. But we persisted, spoke out, and won! Over the last 3 months we called, wrote letters, showed up at town hall meetings, and shared our health care stories. NOW WE CELEBRATE! Celebrating together is essential not only because it’s fun, but also because it shows people that when you take action, you can have an impact so it inspires people to #KeepMarching. Share our celebration image on Facebook and Twitter!
2. Call Your U.S. Senator To Oppose Neil Gorsuch's Confirmation To The U.S. Supreme Court!
—> ACTION: Dial 1-855-976-1895 and we’ll walk you through every step of the way. It’s quick, easy, and high impact!
BACKGROUND: Appointing Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court would move the Court in a dangerous direction, one that threatens the rights of women, LGBTQ+ people, people of color and workers. Judge Gorsuch joined the original Hobby Lobby decision that ruled corporations that allowed bosses to deny women birth control coverage. Reports that Gorsuch told his students that companies should ask women about their pregnancy plans during job interviews, as well as and his claims that women plan to manipulate their employers by taking maternity leave, and then quitting to stay home with their children, prove that he will not be the fair jurist that America’s families and economy need. His appointment would codify the worst of the Trump Administration into our nation’s laws for a lifetime - something our country simply cannot afford. And with the White House currently under investigation, now is not the time to consider appointing a new U.S. Supreme Court Justice. Help stop Gorsuch's confirmation and call now.
—> ACTION: http://action.momsrising.org/sign/MandatedConcealCarry/?t=5&akid=8951.847037.SNDoUO
BACKGROUND: U.S. Senator John Cornyn has introduced the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017 in the U.S. Senate that would force states to recognize concealed-carry permits from all over the country, regardless of how lax the permitting standards are in other states. Should it become the law of the land, individual states would no longer be able to control who is authorized to carry a concealed gun within its borders. Furthermore, police would not even be able to quickly find out if out-of-state permits are valid, putting law enforcement and the public at higher risk of harm. Mandated national conceal-carry would gut common sense gun safety laws that parents worked hard to pass in states across our nation. Americans are already about 20 times more likely to be killed by a gun than someone from another developed country. Now is not the time to weaken common sense safety standards or states rights!
—> ACTION: http://action.momsrising.org/signup/MRKeepMarchingCircles_JOIN/?t=8&akid=8951.847037.SNDoUO
BACKGROUND: From taking action, to sharing resources, to staying on top of the issues, there’s a lot to do — and it’s often the most fun and easiest to do it with a group of people. That's why MomsRising has launched #KeepMarching, a project to support moms and family members who are taking the lead and organizing in their communities, and to create on-the-ground connections among our members to join together to make a difference. When you sign up to join a #KeepMarching Circle, you give us permission to share your contact information with other MomsRising members near you so they can be in touch.
5. What’s Your Experience With Childcare & Early Learning? To build momentum nationally for early learning, we need families (like yours!) to share their experiences with early learning programs like childcare to show our leaders that early education is a priority for their constituents. Have you ever struggled to pay for high-quality childcare? Do you have a success story? Are you a childcare provider? Do tell! And we’ll share with leaders to help get the best policy possible moving forward.
—> ACTION: http://action.momsrising.org/survey/EarlyLearningStory/?t=11&akid=8951.847037.SNDoUO
BACKGROUND: The good, the bad, the complicated — we want to hear it! Personal experiences are powerful and can make a HUGE difference in helping elected leaders understand why supporting access to early learning programs like childcare is so important. Click the link above to share your experience with childcare to help educate leaders about what’s really going on in our nation so they can write the best policy possible for our families and economy.
Thank you for all you do to make our nation stronger and a place where everyone can thrive! #KeepMarching!

Health Policy Expert Explains What Went Wrong with Ryancare

| Happy Monday! With Speaker Paul Ryan pulling the Obamacare repeal bill on Friday, my interview with this registered public health nurse was timely, as she explains so much! Twila Brase is a certified public health nurse and the cofounder and president of the Citizens' Council for Health Freedom (CCHF) in St. Paul, Minnesota. In this video interview, Twila explains:
By late last week, the Republican leadership had stopped arguing policy and started using brute force and tactics that alienate those wanting to argue policy. Last week: Trevor Loudon on who is behind the Trump resistance. Please ask a couple of your friends to sign up here for this weekly email alert about my video interview of the week! Cheers, Ginni P.S. BOOM: Judge Jeanine Pirro has an eye-popping reaction to the health care bill going down last week. Watch this six-minute video here. Another valuable piece is here. What today's vote means
![]() | |
| Robert -- In the dark days back in 2010 when everyone was saying we should give up on trying to pass health care reform, you said no. You and Barack Obama. You had fought too hard for too long to wave a white flag. One conversation, one person at a time you got the job done -- health care simply wouldn't have happened without you. And Obamacare has delivered. More than 20 million Americans have gained health care, and the uninsured rate is at a historic low. It gave middle-class families the security and peace of mind that they hadn't had before, and lives were saved because of the changes you helped bring about. All of the phone calls and the neighborhood meetings, chipping in a few dollars when you could, raising your voice at town halls -- you helped make Obamacare a reality. Add your name right now, and say you'll commit to keep fighting. The night Obamacare passed, I attended the vote-watch party in the Roosevelt Room at the White House. I remember the feeling of relief and pride that filled that room when the final vote was announced. But a lot of us didn't realize that passing the law was the easy part. Over the next seven years there was a cynical and well-funded campaign designed to confuse, mislead, and play games with people's health care. They made up ridiculous lies about death panels, repeatedly tried to repeal the law, and even challenged it all the way to the Supreme Court. But when it comes to health care reform, there was no more cynical move than the one we've witnessed over the past couple of weeks. The new administration and Speaker Paul Ryan tried to rush through a terrible piece of legislation that the majority of Americans oppose. Their bill would have stripped health care away from millions of Americans and ended Medicaid as we know it. It would have taken us back to the days when insurance companies could choose not to cover essential health benefits like maternity or mental health coverage. But the same tireless advocacy once again accomplished something amazing -- something that was unimaginable a couple months ago, back when Obamacare opponents were just waiting for inauguration to cross the Ts and dot the Is of repeal. Today, because of people like you, repeal efforts were dealt a serious blow. Today's a day that reaffirms that when we stand up for what's right, we can overcome remarkable odds. That when we organize, speak out, and take action, Washington hears our message loud and clear. But let's be clear, opponents of Obamacare will not back down for good. They will continue to do everything in their power to chip away at and undermine the law, regardless of who it hurts. There's a lot of work to do ahead of us, but now we know we're ready. Say you'll keep fighting: https://my.ofa.us/Dont-Tread-On-My-Obamacare The movement is alive and well. Thank you for continuing the fight. Messina Jim Messina Co-Chair Organizing for Action | |

The room looked like this:
![]() | ||
| Robert -- This is the group that is deciding the future of women's health care: ![]() In this room, top opponents of Obamacare met yesterday to try to hammer out last-minute changes to their disastrous repeal bill. The first version of the bill already had plenty of unnerving provisions. It would hike costs for families who need help the most. It would cut off all federal funding for Planned Parenthood, which provides crucial health services to millions of women every year. And of course, it would leave 24 million fewer people insured, in large part by pushing millions of low-income Americans off of Medicaid. That means that on top of everything else, many poor women would lose their access to free contraception that was guaranteed under Obamacare to everyone with insurance. Repealing Obamacare would be a disaster for women's health, but there is still time to call your representative and make your support of this law known. Use OFA's online tool to call your representative before they vote on repeal today. Apparently, all of the provisions above still didn't go far enough for some members of the House, so they gathered in this room to make some additional changes. In an effort to win a few more votes, the congressmen in the room urged the White House to scrap the "Essential Health Benefits" provision, which requires all insurance plans to cover certain critical services. So what exactly would scrapping these benefits mean? Well, among other things:
The policies they pushed might make sense to the people in that room, but America doesn't look a whole lot like that room. Some of us don't want our essential health benefits ripped away from us. Call your representative:
