March Update 2022

March Update 2022
VA Delegate John McGuire
Running for State Senate D10 in 2023
Christian Conservative
(Father - Navy SEAL - Business Owner)
We have much work ahead of us to make Virginia the best place to live, work, and raise a family. It is an honor to be your voice and fight for our conservative values in Richmond. Inflation, rising gas prices, taxes, public safety, education, School Choice, Ukraine, election integrity, infrastructure, rural broadband, healthcare, protecting the sanctity of life, protecting our 2nd amendment, and more are on the minds of fellow Virginians. Governor Youngkin and the rest of us in the General Assembly are working hard to address your concerns.
Promises Kept
I am proud to be the first elected official in Virginia to endorse Glenn Youngkin for Governor. Now we must win back the Senate. The primary responsibility of the General Assembly is setting the budget for the next two years. We did not get that done in the sixty-day window. Establishing the budget should have been easy, as most agree that we need: raises for teachers, more money for schools, and law enforcement. Democrats in the Senate are dragging things out and trying to block Governor Youngkin’s agenda. The Republican House version of the budget, which the Democrat Senate has rejected, contained $5 billion in tax relief for Virginians. Unfortunately, Democrats think they can spend your money better than you.

Specifically, the House version of the budget, which again the Senate has rejected, contained $5 billion in tax relief that Virginians need and deserve, including tax rebates of up to $300 for every tax filer and up to $600 for couples. We ended the grocery tax and doubled the standard income tax deduction to put more money back in your paycheck. We also exempted with my bill, HB 1128, up to $40,000 in veteran retirement benefits from income taxes.

Governor Youngkin has called the General Assembly back to Richmond for a Special Session on Monday April 4 to complete our work on the biennial budget and the remaining legislation in conference. I will send out more details once we are done. In the meantime, here is a March update with some of the things on my mind and some of what I've been up to around the district:
Parental Rights
Thank God for Governor DeSantis! He signed a Parental Rights in Education bill into law. This bill ensures that parents of young children can send their kids to kindergarten without gender ideology being injected into classroom instruction, and that parents will be notified about, and have the right to decline healthcare services offered at schools for their kids. The media is misrepresenting what the bill does. Disney even said they will fight to repeal this bill. Fortunately, Governor DeSantis is a strong leader and he made it clear that big corporations do not run Florida; the people do. He is going after Disney and those who want to groom children. Thankfully, we have Governor Youngkin who is also fighting for parental rights!
Can't Define a Woman?
The world is less safe under these radical Democrats. During the second day of confirmation hearings, Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson was pressed to define the word “woman." She could not because she "is not a biologist". She also has a history of being soft on crime, especially with child porn criminals.
National Vietnam Veterans Day
Fox News Video: Vietnam Veterans were literally spat on, and worse, when they returned home. On National Vietnam Veterans Day we honor our Vietnam Veterans and say, “thank you for your service, and welcome home”. When Purple Heart Vietnam veteran, Richard Oulton lost his case to keep his American Flag and flag pole up at his home at the federal Supreme Court, he was forced to take it down or go to jail. This was like getting spat on twice. Thankfully, after a twenty-year battle, my team and I were able to get Mr. Oulton’s flag and flagpole back and celebrate with many Vietnam Veterans as we raised the same flag they flew over their bunker in Vietnam. It is amazing what we can achieve as a team. Click here for video
Russia-Ukraine War
Please pray for Ukraine. How many of you noticed that Russia did not invade Ukraine during the Trump administration, but they did invade during Obama’s and Biden’s administrations. We need real leadership in America. Please get involved, help register voters, and help Republicans take back Congress this year!
Congratulations Wendy Hanah!
Wendy Hanah was sworn in as the new Cumberland County Commonwealth Attorney!
Cumberland County Courthouse
Thank you Wendy for stepping up to keep us safe!
Clerk of Circuit Court Deidre D. Martin

Attorney Khalil Latif
Thank you, Wendy, for stepping up to keep us safe!

It was a huge honor to attend the swearing in ceremony for Cumberland County’s new Commonwealth Attorney, Wendy Hanah. She has an incredible history of service in law enforcement. I enjoyed meeting her family and folks from Amelia, Prince Edward, Appomattox, Buckingham, and Cumberland!
Pam Johnson
Pam Johnson in Goochland County has a long history of helping Republicans get elected. She did a great job running the Goochland Mass meeting. Thank you, Pam, for all you do to ensure our country has a better future!
Hanover School Board ACLU
Fellow Delegates Buddy Fowler, Scott Wyatt, and I stood in unity with The Family Foundation, No Left Turn in Education, and fellow conservatives who care about morally upright schools in Hanover County at the Board of Supervisors meeting. Click here to watch Yael Levin of Hanover, and Virginia Chapter President of No Left Turn in Education, talk about protecting children. #protecteverykid
March for Life April 27, 2022
Life is a miracle and must be protected at all cost. Meet Michelle Matts, lives in Goochland County and is helping my campaign. Please join us April 27 for the 4th Annual Virginia March for Life. Lt.Gov Winsome Sears and Alveda King will speak on the steps of the Capitol. Click Here
Making Friends
Are people starting to realize "Trump Was Right" on so many things? I've met some wonderful Americans around the district who are tired of the woke ideologies that divide us and destroy families. I will never stop fighting for families and our conservative values. I am full of energy and having fun meeting folks all over the district. We are just getting started and I hope to see you soon!
John Meyers
Fellow Navy Veteran John Myers is no longer the Goochland GOP Chair. Under his leadership just about every Republican candidate had a huge win, and Goochland is consistently known for the highest voter turnout in Virginia. John also served in the Navy Seabees for 25 and a half years. He is funny, honest, and conservative. Thank you, John, for your lifetime of service to our country! #virginia
New Goochland GOP Chair
Congratulations to Buddy Bishop for stepping up to serve as Goochland’s new GOP Chairman. Buddy has a long history helping Republicans too, but he does have some big shoes to fill!
Goochland Mass Meeting
It was good to see everyone at the Goochland Mass Meeting. It seemed like I knew everyone in the room. We have much work to do in Virginia!
National AG Day
On National Agriculture Day, we recognize hardworking farmers who work tirelessly to grow and harvest food for families. Agriculture is Virginia’s largest industry. Be sure to thank a farmer for all their hard work! #ThankaFarmer #NationalAgDay
Meet and Greet
We had our first John McGuire Legislative Update/ Meet and Greet and we are planning to have more. Thank you, Karen and Jim, for opening up your home for us.
Outrageous NCAA Swimmer News
We know Virginia Tech’s female swimmer, Reka Gyorgy, actually won the NCAA Women's Swim Championship! But Lia Thomas is a male and he stole her win by taking the NCAA Women’s Swim Championship. This is outrageous. Men should not compete in women’s sports. If LeBron James played women’s basketball, he would score 800 points and we would not have women’s basketball. Please support women and our daughters!
Retired Law Enforcement in Hanover
After my morning workout, I ran into some friends and retired police officers in Hanover County. It is a small world. Thank you for your service, Gents!
Down Syndrome Day
March 21 is World Down Syndrome Day, where we honor over 400,000 people with Down Syndrome.
Rosco
Tracy and I are making friends around the district. Great to meet you, Rosco!
Hanover School Board
I ran into my brother-in-law and Hanover School Board Member this morning at church. Steven Ikenberry is a married father of three grown children, all Hanover County grads. #smallworld #virginia
Remi is growing!
Our dog Remi (Remington) is two years old. During the pandemic, a local farmer told us he had puppies available. Remi has brought a lot of joy to our home and is growing quickly. Dogs are definitely man’s best friend!
Congratulations to My Wife
Congratulations to my wife and favorite real estate agent, Tracy McGuire, for earning a top producer award with The Steele Group Sotheby's International Realty. I could not serve you without her support. She is my best friend and will join me on the campaign as often as she can!
Powhatan County
I have now attended 260 different churches around the district. Meet Connie Harris of Powhatan County. Her family has been attending St. Luke’s Episcopal Church since it was built in 1844. The graveyard around the church includes many notable people, including General Robert E. Lee’s brother, Charles Carter Lee; George Taylor Lee, a cadet at VMI who fought in the Battle of Newmarket during the Civil War; Colonel Alexander S. Quintard, a survivor of the notorious Bataan Death March during World War II; Brigadier General James Postel Jersey, a senior who served in World War I; and Colonel James B. Jervy, Jr. and Brigadier General Leroy P. Collins, both of whom served in World War I and World War II. Thank you for the prayers today. #godisgood #virginia
Potato Social Cumberland
Another first! I can’t tell you how much fun I had campaigning and making new friends around VA Senate District 10. I attended my first Potato Social in Cumberland County and I have say it was great! #virginia
Louisa County
It has been a huge honor representing all of Louisa County since 2018. Congratulations, Elisa Harris, for earning Teacher of the Year at Jouett Elementary School. And congratulations, Lloyd Runnett, for being appointed to the Mineral District seat on the Louisa School Board! #virginia
Goochland Tea Party
I had the honor of giving a legislative update to the Goochland Tea Party. It is amazing how many hours these folks volunteer each year to help fellow Republicans get elected. Thank you for all you do!
Things You See on the Campaign Trail
Things you see on the campaign trail. I spotted this motorcycle mailbox in Powhatan County this morning. #merrica
Louisa School Superintendent
I spent quite a bit of time talking with Louisa County Public Schools Superintendent, Doug Straley, about positive teamwork, education policy, sports, the pandemic, and more. We have worked together on education issues for five years now. Though we do not agree on everything, he is supportive of our Governor Glenn Youngkins Education Agenda, and (for those who asked) he did not sign the letter that encouraged 133 School Superintendents to not support Youngkin’s education agenda. Thank you, Doug, for all you do to support our children, educators, and our community!
Art Show
We have some amazing talent in Louisa County. I met some wonderful people at Louisa High School today for the Art Show. Thank you, LCPS Band Boosters, for doing an amazing job with concessions! #virginia
Hanover Sheriff 2021 in Review
I had the honor of attending the Hanover County Sheriff's office 2021 in Review. It is amazing how everyone works together to keep our community safe. Many pastors, members of law enforcement, Fire/ EMS, and local leaders attended. God is at work in Virginia. Thank you for all you do!
Fluvanna
I enjoyed making friends while campaigning in Fluvanna. Next time, I hope to see you!
Recent Sheriff Endorsements
In case you missed it, I am humbled and honored to have the endorsement of these four Sheriffs serving in the new Senate District 10. Thank you for keeping us safe!
In case you missed it, I am humbled and honored to have the endorsement of these three members of the Virginia House of Delegates, currently representing parts of the new Senate District 10.

Hanover Friends
We continue to make friends around the district. We hope to see you soon!
In case you missed it, I announced my candidacy for the Senate of Virginia's 10th District for 2023 which includes Hanover County.

List of the new VA Senate District 10 Counties:

Hanover
Powatan
Louisa
Fluvanna
Goochland
Buckingham
Appomattox
Amelia
Prince Edward
Cumberland

As a current five-year member of the Virginia House of Delegates, I know first-hand how the media and radical leftist policies are dividing us and making the world less safe at the federal, state, and local levels. We must win back the Virginia State Senate in 2023. I invite you and your friends to join me in this cause. Please spread the word and I hope to see you around the district!

-John
