On December 20, 2017, Republicans forced through a massive tax scam for the rich -- one that gave millionaires and corporations huge, unnecessary tax breaks, and added $1.9 trillion to our country's debt.
Almost immediately afterwards, they had the audacity to tell us they'd start looking at cuts for programs like Medicaid and Social Security to pay for it.
It was shameless.
Even worse, we found out that Republican Rep. Vern Buchanan (FL-16) -- a member of the Ways and Means Committee that wrote the bill, and a Congressman personally worth an estimated $74 million -- bought a massive yacht for himself on the same day he voted for the bill.
Just to be clear: Rep. Buchanan wrote and voted for a tax bill that put millions of dollars in his own pocket -- and cashed it in with a yacht the very same day.
Robert, as if we needed a clearer piece of evidence: These Republican representatives don't care about middle-class families, and it's time to hold them accountable.
They didn't care when they tried to gut Obamacare dozens of times, raising premiums and threatening millions of Americans' coverage. They didn't care when they passed this tax scam, despite nonpartisan estimates that showed taxes on middle-class Americans would go up in the coming years.
And they still don't care today.
This week, OFA volunteers showed up at offices nationwide. They hand-delivered personal yachts to representatives who voted for the tax scam, and showed how out of touch these representatives are with everyday Americans:
We need representatives who act in the best interests of their constituents -- and we can make it happen. Speak out against this tax scam:
