I get the privilege of explaining my region – the one I grew up in and returned to a few years ago – to Guardian readers around the world. I’ve written about whether the blue wave is real, voters' anger about the elite and the establishment, examined Hasan Piker’s influence on the elections, went door to door with people talking to their neighbors in rural Wisconsin about their healthcare woes, and crossed the US/Canada border to hear how Trump’s tariff war affects otherwise friendly border towns. Quick update from the road in Mississippi

Robert, it’s Kamala from the road in Mississippi. I will be direct: I am asking you to make a contribution to support my work getting out the vote for Democrats ahead of the midterm elections.

In the final days before the midterm election, I will hit the trail in Nevada, Mississippi, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, and Georgia to campaign for some incredible leaders.

At every stop, I am reminding people that now is the time to act. We finally have the chance to put a check on the most corrupt, callous, and incompetent administration in our history.

The midterms are our chance to elect leaders who will fight for the people.

The cost of everything from groceries and gas to housing to healthcare to childcare is going up because of choices made by Donald Trump' and his enablers in Congress.

Those choices have consequences. So do elections.

So we have to get out in numbers too big to rig over the next 12 days to make our voices heard. Now is the moment to turn our pain to purpose and head to the polls.

That is why I am traveling across the country with Fight for The People PAC to help elect Democrats everywhere I can. It is so important that we use our power.

Keke’s question about 2028

I’m a big believer in this, Robert…

Right now.

That’s when I am asking you to contribute to help my work to elect Democrats in critical races across the country in the midterm elections.

My friend, Keke Palmer, asked recently if I plan to run for office in 2028. I told her that 2028 doesn’t matter if we don’t win 2026. We have to focus on the fights we can win right now: The midterms.

I’m a big believer in this, Robert: You have got to focus on what is directly in front of you instead of what’s lurking out there in the distance.

If you’re too focused on what’s out in the distance, you’re going to trip over the thing in front of you.

You have to center yourself in what you are able to do right now.

Right now, we can work to win back the House and the Senate.

That is how we put a check on the corruption and cruelty of the current administration.

Then we can reestablish affordable healthcare and childcare. We can explore the big ideas that can make government work for the people again: expanding the Supreme Court, abolishing the Electoral College, granting statehood to Puerto Rico and DC.

That only happens if we turn out in numbers too big to rig this November.

For my part, I am going to travel to get out the vote in competitive states across the country. This is the work I am doing with Fight for the People PAC, and I need your support to uplift these critical candidates.
