Sheriff (Ret.) Danny Diggs Becomes the Republican Nominee for the 24th Senate District
I would like to thank the residents of the 24th Senate District for putting their faith in me and nominating me as the Republican Candidate for the State Senate. Last year, when I announced my candidacy, I knew the Commonwealth I love needed leaders in Richmond who were ready to get to work.
Since Governor Youngkin was sworn into office, Democrats in Richmond have stood in the way and blocked every meaningful effort to reverse the dangerous soft on crime pieces of legislation they passed since they took power. It is time for a change, and my opponent, Monty Mason, has been on the wrong side of every consequential issue.
My opponent has opposed legislation that would allow drug dealers to be charged with felony homicide if they sold drugs that result in an overdose. He has refused to investigate the parole board for any wrongdoing and he even patroned the bill that allowed students to commit crimes in schools and have that information go unreported to the police. It is not just misguided politics, it is downright dangerous to continue these failed policies.
We need a change, and we need it now. As a lifelong resident of the Commonwealth, I know the challenges facing our community, and I am committed to finding practical solutions that benefit everyone. As your next State Senator, I will work to make your family safer, not coddle violent criminals. I will fight to lower our tax burden and lower our healthcare costs. Sheriff (Ret.) Danny Diggs Submits Petitions for Candidacy.
I am humbled by the tremendous amount of support that I have received from my community over the past few months. Today, I have submitted the number of signatures and petitions necessary to have my name placed on the ballot for State Senator. After weeks of door-knocking and going out into the community to speak and meet with the hardworking men and women of the 24th Senate District, I was able to submit hundreds of signatures. It is clear that Virginians are ready for change!
Since Governor Youngkin was elected, Democrats in the State Senate have stood in the way of commonsense legislation to help lower our taxes, protect our children, and make Virginia a place where we feel comfortable raising a family again.
On November 7th, there will be a "new sheriff in town," and as your State Senator,
I will fight tooth and nail to reverse the dangerous anti-safety and anti-police bills that have made our communities less safe.
I will fight to have our parents' voices heard in our schools and stand up for our children.
I will fight to help make our healthcare more affordable.
I will fight to end the regressive grocery and gas tax and allow hard-working Virginians to keep money in their pockets.
The Biden Administration is taking public comments until March 27th on its plan to resurrect a Trump-era asylum ban. House Republicans proposed a 30% federal sales tax that would give the wealthy a huge tax cut, raise taxes on working families, and threaten programs like child care, healthcare, and Social Security. It would abolish the corporate income tax, the individual income tax (which is mostly paid by wealthy Americans), the estate tax (which is exclusively paid by couples worth over $25 million), and payroll taxes (which finance Social Security and parts of Medicare). This tax plan would even eliminate the Child Tax Credit—a program we know reduces child poverty and helps our families make ends meet!

After President Biden called out Republicans during the State of the Union about proposing to cut Medicare and Social Security, Republicans relented and agreed not to cut those programs. [1] But now Republican leaders are setting their sights on cutting other critical healthcare programs for parents and families like: Medicaid, CHIP, and the Affordable Care Act (ACA). [2] THIS IS NOT OKAY!
What's happening? In order to win over far-right Republicans to become Speaker of the House, Rep. Kevin McCarthy agreed to hold the debt ceiling increase hostage in order to extract cuts to crucial programs like Medicaid, CHIP, and the ACA. [3] It is critical that we come together to protect these healthcare programs that provide crucial healthcare coverage to millions of families across the country.
More than half of America's children receive health coverage through Medicaid and CHIP. These healthcare programs ensure that children and families have access to essential medical care, including preventive services, prescription drugs, and maternity care. Without this coverage, millions of families would be unable to afford the health care they need, leading to worse health outcomes and higher medical costs in the long run. These programs are a safety net for families during times of economic hardship, when losing health coverage can be catastrophic.
Medicaid, CHIP, and the ACA not only play a critical role in supporting families' health, these programs also reduce income inequality and benefit our economy. With over a decade worth of data, it is clear that the Affordable Care Act and its expansion of Medicaid reduced income inequality in states that fully embraced the law. [5] These programs are critical for low-income families, communities of color, disabled individuals, and elderly people.
Access to healthcare coverage also boosts our economy by enabling individuals to stay healthy and productive, reducing the cost of lost productivity and absenteeism. Additionally, health care is a critical component of job creation, as it enables people to be able to start small businesses without the fear of losing their health care and supports the growth of healthcare-related industries.
