1. Send Boehner the Bill

2. Why Liberty Counsel MUST Win Their Lawsuit Against ObamaCare

1. Send House Speaker Boehner the Bill

During the recent "fiscal cliff" negotiations, House Speaker John Boehner -- after conceding $800 billion in new taxes -- asked President Obama, "What am I getting?"

The Wall Street Journal reports that Obama looked at Boehner and said, "You don't get anything for it. I'm taking that anyway."

This is the man who did our bidding? A man who repeatedly said that raising taxes "is not going to happen" and that "there will be no tax hikes"?

In fact, John Boehner told the world -- and every conservative in it -- that "extending all of the current tax rates and making them permanent will reduce the uncertainty in America and help small businesses begin to create jobs again."

+ + Boehner's Tough Talk Just Empty Promises
But his tough talk and blustering about fiscal responsibility and not raising taxes was for the cameras' benefit, not yours! In the end, it was more of the same beltway hot air -- full of empty promises and lip service. Sadly, Boehner's failure is about to impact all working-class Americans at a time when many can't afford it.

Grassfire is making it possible for you to send John Boehner -- and others who supported the "fiscal cliff" deal -- the bill for the money they're costing you and your family! Go here now
to INVOICE them for the amount they're taking from you
.

+ + Washington's Spending Crisis Shouldn't Be YOUR Crisis
Amidst rising unemployment; continuing economic uncertainty; fears about ObamaCare; and lawmakers authorizing the federal government to take, on average, an additional $1,667 from your pocket this year; grassroots Americans need to send the strongest response possible to those most responsible.

That's why Grassfire has created a platform for you to INVOICE your two Virginia senators and representative, as well as John Boehner and virtually all the Republican lawmakers who supported the outright theft of your hard-earned money. Go here now to send John Boehner and his friends the bill.

+ + Take Action: Invoice Boehner And His Friends For Taking Your Money
Tell them you won't stand for or support elected officials who compromise their principles and then expect the American people to silently follow along.

John Boehner lied to you! But Grassfire can help you respond to him and other lawmakers who voted in favor of last week's "fiscal cliff" tax increase.

Use our FaxFire immediate delivery system to INVOICE John Boehner and other Congressional leaders for the money they're taking from you.

2. Why Liberty Counsel MUST Win Their Lawsuit Against ObamaCare

Our friends at Liberty Counsel have the most advanced lawsuit in the nation to stop ObamaCare, and represents the best hope to rid America of ObamaCare. We stand with them believing that their team of lawyers WILL ultimately win this important case signalling an end to ObamaCare.

Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mathew Staver has a special request for grassroots Americans who are keenly interested in defeating ObamaCare. Take a moment to read his message below and take action with him.

The “ObamaCare fiscal cliff” could prove to be far more disastrous than the fiscal cliff crisis that innundated the news over the new year.

In fact, when it comes to ObamaCare, the financial burden American taxpayers will be required to carry is just part of the nightmarish story.

There’s no question in my mind that ObamaCare is a malignant cancer on our society impacting far more than our wallets and pocketbooks.
  • The 21 new taxes and fees that experts predict will cost taxpayers trillions;
  • The soaring health insurance premiums (which we are already beginning to see);
  • The addition of more than 16 million Americans to an already overburdened Medicare system;
  • And an unknown number of new “mandates” yet to be revealed by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Implementation of ObamaCare will exact a heavy toll on us as individuals, including ObamaCare’s Independent Advisory Board (IPAB), a collection of appointed number crunchers who hold the rationing power over what kind of treatment you and your loved ones will receive.

Your choice of physician and care will likely soon become a thing of the past. Even the Congressional Budget Office predicts as many as 20 million Americans will be tossed from their current plans and into state exchanges that will closely examine your finances and family history to determine who gets government subsidies.

Shortages of care and physicians will become the norm and, as a result, innovative research and treatments that once characterized the U.S. healthcare system will sharply decline.

You will pay for your own for life-saving drugs and treatment plans, but life-ending drugs (to commit euthanasia) will be free under ObamaCare!

++Liberty Counsel’s lawsuit: The Best Hope to Derail ObamaCare.

I believe the human cost of ObamaCare will dwarf the financial cost of this unconstitutional mandate, as levels of angst, fear, and frustration over ObamaCare will prove devastating to the human condition.

Some describe our “second chance” to argue our case against ObamaCare in Liberty University v. Geithner as a miracle. I don’t think that is hyperbole in the least. I believe God’s hand is on us as we gird ourselves and prepare for battle. But entering into that legal arena with so much at stake, I would like nothing better than for you to be with me. I’d like to see every friend of Liberty Counsel represented in our all-new "Amici Book" book, which is Latin for "Book of Friends."

This important book will be with me in the courtroom and be used to bolster and embolden our legal team. I personally invite you to add your name to our Amici Book by clicking on the link below:

I have no doubt that God has placed Liberty Counsel here for a time such as this. As a friend of Liberty Counsel, I want you by my side as we fight this historic battle.

Liberty Counsel

P.S. Again, thank you for joining us in the courtroom by signing our Amici Book (meaning, as I have mentioned, “Book of Friends”).

[Peninsula-Patriots] Medical Excise Tax

This is one of the better responses...

I will send this along for your consideration.

I note that ALL of our Congressional representatives voted against the fiscal cliff bill.

Three are Republicans and one is a Democrat. I can't believe that they put ideology before the good of the people.

The Democrat always votes against a GOP bill. The Republicans stated that the bill didn't have enough cuts in spending.

No solutions were perfect. Bi-lateral compromise was obviously necessary. Instead of compromise, they chose the second best solution.

As in poker, the second best hand is a loser and we see what the second best in the race for the presidency amounts to.

I have to agree with Larry. we can't give much trust to or confidence in our present representatives.

If you track your cost of living from now on, you will see the hidden results of past legislation.

Obamacare, for one, is supported in part by increased taxes on small business having nothing to do with health care.

Remember, companies don't pay taxes, people do. Tax increases on companies have to be passed on the to the consumer or they go out of business.

The slow process of increased taxes on a myriad of items will gradually amount to a great deal and, as Larry says, it is a rare thing to ever discontinue a tax once it is enacted.

Subject: Medical Excise Tax

A very good friend of mine (a dentist) informed me yesterday that he is raising his rates due to the new "Medical Excise Tax."  It doesn't take a mental giant to understand what this tax is all about, and where it came from.  However, what's more important is to understand how the average, middle-classed citizen will be affected by this.

For example, I have some family member's that want to "stick it to the big guy!!!  Make them pay!!!  I want free stuff from the government!!"  What they will find out now is that the "Medical Excise Tax" (MET) will cause their insurance rates to go up, in turn it will affect their premiums.  I am really starting to think that we should've read Obama's 2000+ page health bill, prior to signing it, just to see what's in it...

In short, this is only the beginning.  I've already seen examples of the MET on items other than healthcare expenses (be sure to look at your receipt).  The problem with new taxes is that once they are imposed, they generally will not go away.  It has the same quality and respect of some STD's.  Nothing good will come from them, and they will get worse as time (and our money) go by.

Prior to the vote on the last minute budget, I maintained "some" respect for the Republican Party.  Since the "cave-in"  I've lost all respect for both political parties and feel certain that their only purpose for being there is for re-election, and re-election only.  It appears that they have no loyalty to their constituents, no matter how many times we make that 202 (area code) call.  What we are viewing in Washington is exactly what Thomas Jefferson and the Democratic-Republicans were afraid of.  The reality is this, "it's here and it's not going away anytime soon."  We (the working, middle-class schmos that wanted to 'stick it to the man,'" will soon feel our wallets and purses losing more and more weight as this corrupt government gets in them and starts yanking out our hard-earned dollars.

Now, what can we do to start fixing this?  I am curious as I feel this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.  I would like to hear your thoughts.

Then and Now: History for Today
January 9
1956 - Pauline Phillips’ "Dear Abby" column first appeared in newspapers. According to Phillips, she came up with the pen name, Abigail Van Buren, by combining the name of a Biblical figure, Abigail in the 1 Samuel, with the last name of former U.S. President Martin Van Buren. A similar column, Ask Ann Landers, was written from 1955 to 2002 by Pauline's twin sister Eppie Lederer. The "Dear Abby" column is carried on today by Pauline’s daughter, Jeanne Phillips, who now owns the legal rights to her mother’s pen name.

1984 - “WHERE’S THE BEEF?” Clara Peller was first seen by TV viewers in the famous and successful commercial campaign for the Wendy’s fast-food chain. Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas spent $8 million on the ads that promoted hamburger sales, plus T-shirts, baseball caps, records, greeting cards and countless other promotional items bearing the picture of the elderly spokeswoman. The ad campaign ended in 1985 after Peller performed in a commercial for Prego pasta sauce, saying that she "finally found" the beef. In 2011, Wendy's revived the phrase for its new ad campaign, finally answering its own question with "Here's the beef."

2007 - Steve Jobs unveiled the iPhone to the public at the Macworld 2007 convention at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. The two initial models, a 4 GB model priced at $499 and an 8 GB model at $ 599, went on sale in the United States on June 29, 2007. In its opening weekend, the original iPhone sold over 500,000 units. In September 2012, Apple sold over 5 million iPhone 5's in that model’s debut weekend.

Oh, Goodie: $264 Billion Tax for 2013 Could Spark New Recession. In case you were thinking about getting excited by the prospects of landing that spiffy new job you’ve had your eye on, you might want to give those hopes a healthy dose of reality. Apparently, a “growing chorus” of economists have been warning about the clear possibility that 2013 tax hikes could prove devastating for the nation’s fragile economy. Why? Well, with the expiration of the Bush tax rates, the end of the “payroll tax holiday” and several new Obamacare taxes slated to go into effect this year, economic growth could stall as workers keep less take-home pay and, ultimately, make the kind of budget cuts congress refuses to make. In other words, it seems like Congress thinks that recessions mean they need more revenue and you need less. Figures.

Here’s a Good Place to Start Budget Cuts: Planned Parenthood Received $542.4 Million From Government from 2011 to 2012. Doesn’t it seem a little weird that the United States government, which faces a potentially catastrophic budget crisis in the near future as more and more baby boomers retire and claim Social Security and Medicare benefits, sent over a half a billion dollars to an organization that essentially discourages people from having children? Shouldn’t policymakers be encouraging people to have more children so they can increase the number of taxpayers who will need to support aging retirees? Apparently not, because the abortion-providing Planned Parenthood received a whopping $542.4 million in government grants and reimbursements over the past two years. In case you’re curious, that’s worth nearly half – 45 percent – of the controversial organization’s annual revenues. According to the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, Planned Parenthood performed nearly 334,000 abortions in that time period. Perhaps it’s time, in this era of tight budgets and sluggish economic growth, for lawmakers to finally consider slashing funding for this pricey, controversial group.

Egypt’s President Asks Obama to Release the Blind Sheikh. That Arab Spring really seems to be working out extremely well, doesn’t it? Protesters in Iran were crushed, Syria and Libya have spun seemingly out of control, but if you want encouragement, look no further than Egypt. That’s right, the Muslim Brotherhood-dominated Egypt is such a force of moderation and peace in the Mideast that its President, Mohammed Morsi, is asking President Obama to release the Blind Sheikh. Yes, that’s the same Blind Sheikh – Omar Abdel-Rahman – who was the spiritual advisor to the 1993 World Trade Center bombers and is serving a life sentence for his hole in the attack. Back in September, the Justice Department insisted that “Suggestions that the US government is planning to transfer or release the blind sheik to Egypt are totally false and absolutely baseless.” The National Security Council also said there were “no discussions” about transferring Abdel-Rahman. This begs the question: If there were no discussions happening, why is President Morsi publicly asking for his release?

Al Jazeera Buys Out Current TV, Most Awkward Staff Meeting Ever Ensues. Conservatives have all had a pretty good laugh over the fact that Al Gore, the supposed patron saint of the modern liberal environmental movement, sold out Current TV to a network that is based in oil-rich Qatar. Apparently, Current’s environmentally-concerned staffers aren’t exactly pleased about the move either. On Monday morning, Current staffers had to attend an all-hands meeting in which they got to know their new bosses. Gore was conspicuously absent, a fact which left already-bitter employees with a bad taste in their mouths, with one staffer saying, “Of course Al didn’t show up. He has no credibility.” Others were decidedly less diplomatic in their expressions of dismay. “We all know that Al Gore is nothing but a [liar],” said one. Another pointed out the irony that the liberal Gore sold the network just in time to avoid 2013’s higher tax rates: “We do stories on the tax code, and he sells the network before the tax code kicked in?” And so much for being “green,” said another: “Al was always lecturing us about green. He kept his word about green all right – as in cold, hard cash!” Perhaps he just wasn’t entirely thrilled about the prospect of paying his “fair share” in taxes this year.

Dershowitz: Maybe Lots of Americans Don’t Like the Hagel Appointment, But Iran Likely Does. With the start of Obama’s second term just days away, the President has finally announced his picks for some key cabinet replacements. Among them is former Senator Chuck Hagel, whom the President has tapped to head the Department of Defense. Chief among the hurdles Hagel faces in his nomination fight is the fact that he doesn’t exactly hold favorable views of America’s closest Mideast ally, Israel. Alan Dershowitz thinks the appointment is dangerous. “I think it makes it more likely that Iran will persist in its efforts to develop nuclear weapons,” he said. “This will send a message to the Iranian Mullahs of softness, to nominate a man who is opposed to sanctions and who is opposed to the military option.” He went on to say that he thinks the Iranians are “celebrating” this appointment, since it allegedly increases their chances of successfully isolating Israel. Unless quite a few Democrats vote against their party, Hagel’s nomination will easily clear the Senate.

Smooth Move, Orlando: Florida Couple Says City Has Threatened to Remove Their Vegetable Garden. If there was ever a whole lot of doubt as to whether governments these days are particularly inclined to encourage their citizens to be self-reliant, this story probably removes some of those doubts. An Orlando couple is, yet again, faced with the prospect of having their well-manicured vegetable garden removed by the city if they don’t uproot it by tomorrow. In response, Jason and Jennifer Helveston have launched a protest, dubbed “Plant a Seed, Change the Law,” and they say the city has violated their constitutional right to peacefully use their own property to grow their own food. The Helvestons are even asking others to join them in their protest by planting their own “Patriot Gardens” to protest the city’s actions. Even if there is some kind of brilliant argument in favor of the city’s actions, we can’t help but wonder: do city officials have nothing better to do than fine people for planting gardens?

Ironically, We Have Communism to Thank for the Demise of Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez. Most decent people wouldn’t wish death on anyone, but socialist Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has apparently wished death on himself. Sources close to Chavez, who is dying of cancer in Havana, Cuba, say the radical President might have survived had he not insisted on being so, well, socialist. In nearby Sao Paolo, Brazil is the Sirio-Libanese Hospital which, modeled after U.S. oncology centers, has had remarkable success at fighting cancer. Chavez had an opportunity to have his cancer treated there, but after his demands to take over the 400-bed hospital were refused, Chavez decided instead to be treated in the far-inferior Cuba in order to make a “political” statement about communism. Ironically, it appears the only statement he’ll be making is that state-run medical care is definitely the way not to go. One wonders if anyone in Washington is paying attention.

In Italy, the Cult of Fascist WWII Dictator Mussolini is Alive and Well. It would probably be quite a shock for any modern observer to travel to Germany only to discover that the locals there were still infatuated with their World War II Fuhrer, with trinkets bearing his likeness selling like hotcakes. That certainly isn’t happening in Germany, but head south to Italy and a similar phenomenon is taking place as scores of Italians unashamedly buy merchandise aimed at glorifying their World War II dictator, Benito Mussolini. Even more amazing, as der Spiegel reports, “Many still consider the fascist dictator to have been an honorable man,” despite the fact that it was Mussolini that inspired many of Adolf Hitler’s radical Fascist ideas. Perhaps in Europe, your worst deeds can be swept under the rug if only you make the trains run on time.

The Fiscal Cliff: the Good and the Bad

If you are having trouble viewing this message, please view it online.

1/4/2013

The Fiscal Cliff crisis has been averted...for now.

The good? About 80 percent of the Bush tax cuts will remain in place for 98 percent of the population.

The bad? Republicans allowed the entire discussion to take place without ever mentioning the 20 new taxes introduced by ObamaCare, amounting to about $1 trillion over the next 10 years. Five of them started on January 1. In a column at Townhall.com, NCPA President John C. Goodman explains that the new ObamaCare taxes will hit everything from dividends and capital gains to day care and services for special needs children.

A solution? The NCPA has a reasonable, revenue-neutral proposal: push back the start date of the five new ObamaCare taxes and pay for that by pushing back the start date of ObamaCare.

Sadly, the Republicans didn't even bring this idea up in the negotiations. It is still not too late to try it out.

We appreciate your continued support as we begin another productive year!

Thanks for your support!
