I wrote a letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent supporting broad access to the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit, a permanent tax credit, up to $1,700, for individuals donating to non-profit, scholarship-granting organizations. The organizations use these funds to distribute school supplies and assist students with private and non-traditional school tuition. Education is not a one-size-fits-all issue, and by expanding on the work of my Educational Choice for Children Act, we can make sure students and families have the resources to choose an education that gives them the best opportunities for success. It is a matter of survival. […] Corporate insurers and pharmacy benefit mangers often describe their role as managing benefits and controlling costs. In reality, they are the primary drivers of skyrocketing healthcare costs and systemic inequality.   To truly lower healthcare costs and protect patients, Congress must target the root cause: misaligned incentives and anti-competitive vertical integration of health insurers and pharmacy benefit mangers. These conglomerates own the pharmacies and the clinics, giving them more influence over which medicines are available to patients.   Finally, rural and minority neighborhoods across South Carolina rely heavily on neighborhood pharmacies for trusted care. However, these vital community hubs are being forced to close at alarming rates due to challenging reimbursement structures. When an independent pharmacy closes in rural South Carolina, a healthcare desert is created.   Healthcare reform requires bold leadership. The sickle cell community in South Carolina has a true leader and is deeply grateful to Senator Tim Scott, who has been a true champion and advocate.
