Giving Thanks for Our South Carolina Community!

Image

November 21, 2025

Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

As we look ahead to Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to the people across our state who make South Carolina such a remarkable place to call home. From the families who nurture our communities, to the neighbors who lend a hand when it’s needed most, and the countless volunteers, service members, and first responders who dedicate themselves to serving fellow Americans every day, we are truly blessed to live in a state full of generosity, resilience, and spirit.

Whether you are traveling to be with family, hosting friends, or simply enjoying a quiet moment at home, I hope this holiday season brings laughter, joy, and memories to cherish. As we enter this season of gratitude, let us remember the value of community, kindness, and the simple joys that connect us all.

From my family to yours, I wish you a joyful, restful, and truly happy Thanksgiving!

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”

— Psalm 107:1

Talking Housing, Taxes, and Opportunity on Mornings with Maria

This week, I joined Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business to talk about how I’m striving to help make life better for families and communities across South Carolina. We discussed efforts to make housing more affordable and accessible, upcoming tax changes that will put more money back in the pockets of hardworking families, and the importance of putting the wellbeing of Americans before politics.Republicans have made meaningful progress, even in the face of obstruction from the left, and I remain committed to creating opportunities and strengthening the quality of life for everyone in our state!

Expanding Safe Pain Management for Veterans

Additionally, I joined Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), and our colleagues in introducing the Non-Opioids Prevent Addiction in the Nation (NOPAIN) for Veterans Act, bipartisan legislation to expand access to non-opioid treatments for veterans. Our veterans risked everything to defend our freedoms, and they deserve nothing less than the best care possible. I supported similar reforms for Medicare patients, and now I’m proud to join this effort to ensure every veteran in South Carolina and across the nation has more options to manage pain and reduce unnecessary opioid use that too often destroys lives. This bill helps maximize access to safe, effective alternatives to opioids, giving veterans the high-quality care they have earned.

Sharing the #SCSweetTea

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it’s wonderful to see our community coming together to support families in need. In Charleston, Molina Healthcare of South Carolina, the Charleston Hispanic Association, Community Impact Outreach, and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control are teaming up to distribute over 10 tons of food and 500 turkeys. The food giveaway will be held on November 22 at Community Impact Outreach, 2429 Midland Park Road, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. I’m inspired by the generosity of these organizations and the spirit of giving that makes our community so special this time of year! The State: Senate Banking backs Hill for FDIC chairman along party lines

By Mark Schoeff Jr.

November 19, 2025

Travis Hill didn't satisfy the top Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee that he's addressing cultural problems at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, but the panel approved his nomination to chair the agency along party lines on Wednesday.

Banking Chairman Tim Scott, R-S.C., cited Hill's background in endorsing his nomination.

In addition to serving as FDIC vice chairman, Hill also was an adviser and policy deputy for former FDIC Chairman Jelena McWilliams and worked in other roles at the agency since 2018.

Before joining the FDIC, Hill was a senior counsel on the committee.

"Mr. Hill's prior experience, including at the FDIC as well as a staff member on this committee, makes him more than qualified for this important role managing the DIF (Depositors Insurance Fund), leading supervisory reforms, and eliminating the toxic workplace culture that existed under the prior FDIC leadership," Scott said.
