Putting South Carolinians and All Americans First

October 3, 2025

Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

This week, Senate Republicans voted four times to keep our government open and ensure essential services are available to the American people. I remain focused on advancing fiscally responsible, commonsense solutions that put South Carolinians and all Americans first.

Even as certain federal services are temporarily paused during the government shutdown, my office remains fully operational and ready to assist. If you need help with a federal agency or have questions, my team is here to provide support. Click here for more information.

Week in Review

One Year Since Hurricane Helene

It’s been one year since Hurricane Helene struck South Carolina, and we honor the lives lost and the everyday heroes who stepped up during the storm. From first responders to neighbors helping neighbors, the resilience of our communities has inspired the nation. Over the past year, I have worked to secure federal resources to help South Carolinians recover and rebuild—from advocating for disaster relief funding to ensuring small businesses have access to critical SBA loans. Lifting Local Communities Act

Faith-based organizations play a vital role in serving vulnerable families and communities in South Carolina and across our nation. That’s why I led the Lifting Local Communities Act to ensure religious organizations are treated equally under federal law and can receive federal funding for social service programs on the same basis as private, nonreligious organizations. This bill provides clarity and fairness, ensuring faith-based organizations can continue meeting critical needs and strengthening communities without compromising their mission.

Sharing the #SCSweetTea

This summer, Genesis Healthcare’s back-to-school initiatives helped more than 800 students and families across South Carolina start the school year strong! From backpack giveaways and dental hygiene kits to food assistance and community cookouts, these efforts not only prepared children for success in the classroom but also strengthened the communities they call home. I’m inspired to see organizations like Genesis Healthcare supporting families and investing in the next generation!

WIS: SC Congressional delegation reacts to first government shutdown in almost 7 years

By Marley Bassett

October 1, 2025

South Carolina Congressional officials released statements after the Senate failed to pass a bill to avert a government shutdown Tuesday night.

It’s now the first government shutdown in seven years.

Sen. Tim Scott: Scott’s statement primarily blamed Democrats, saying they were “playing politics” with government funding.

He also said that he remained “committed to advancing fiscally responsible, commonsense solutions” for South Carolinians.

“Republicans have stood resolute in voting to keep our government open and ensure essential services remain available for the American people. Democrats chose to shut down the federal government, putting American families and workers last. While Democrats play politics with government funding, I remain committed to advancing fiscally responsible, commonsense solutions that put South Carolinians and Americans first.” – Sen. Tim Scott
