Thanking the Brave Men and Women Who Served Our Great Nation
Friend, Virginia's First District is home to one of the fastest growing veteran populations, and over the years, I have been fortunate to meet many of these selfless men and women. As such, veterans issues and priorities are First District issues and priorities, and I have been doing all I can to ensure our nation's heroes feel heard, supported, and represented in Washington. As we commemorate Veterans Day, it is essential to recognize the dedication, courage, and selflessness of these heroes. I have been working diligently to ensure that our veterans receive the support and benefits they earned through their service to our nation: - Supported the PACT Act, now signed into law, which expands healthcare and benefits to veterans who were exposed to burn pits or other toxins during their time of service.
- Introduced three Veteran Affairs accountability bills to remove administrative roadblocks to VA services:
- The Veterans Choice Accountability Act – Expands veteran access to non-VA medical care and establishes a review of the VA's implementation of the Veterans Choice Program.
- The Veterans Collaboration Act – Creates a VA pilot program to foster collaboration between qualified non-profit veterans service organizations and educational institutions that provide assistance to veterans.
- The Veterans Affairs Transfer of Information and Sharing of Disability Examination Procedures with DoD Doctors Act – Requires that the service member's separation physical examinations conducted by military doctors be used to determine service-connected disability. This would speed up access to care for veterans by not subjecting them to another round of medical screenings before a disability rating is issued.
- Introduced and supported various bills, such as the BRAVE Act, aimed at improving veterans' mental health support, education, and access to essential services.
One of the most important things I can do as your representative in Washington is to help folks with federal agency inquiries, including the Department of Veterans Affairs.
