Dear fellow South Carolinians, Thank you for subscribing to my weekly e-newsletter, and please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. Improved Access to Care for Diabetes Patients Last week, I joined Sen. Mark Warner to lead a bipartisan letter to Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Alex Azar and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Seema Verma, urging them to make CDC-recognized virtual Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) providers eligible for reimbursement in the Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program (MDPP) expanded model. Including virtual providers would empower beneficiaries, regardless of their zip code, with feasible options for preventative, value-based care. In addition, including virtual DPP providers in the expanded MDPP and embracing digital health tools to empower patients would deliver better health outcomes and drive additional savings across the healthcare system. You can read more, including the full letter, here. National Adoption Month On Friday, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) decided to repeal the regulation that threatened faith-based foster care and adoption agencies in South Carolina. It is fitting that this National Adoption Month, HHS has sided with our most vulnerable children in restoring the rights of the faith-based adoption agencies who care for them. South Carolinians can rest assured that their religious liberties are protected while we will continue to do everything we can to help our children find loving and nurturing homes. You can view the HHS announcement here. South Carolina Economic News According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ latest economic news release, South Carolina has multiple metropolitan regions with less than 2% unemployment! Charleston, Greenville, Hilton Head, Spartanburg and Columbia all made the list. This is just another indication that South Carolina is open for business and booming! Sincerely, Tim |
