We Stand With Israel

"We pray for Israel and grieve during this tragic moment for Virginians, Americans, and for the world. Our hearts ache. Together, we stand strong against ruthless evil and stand always with Israel and the Jewish people who have shined as a bright light in the darkest of times." - Governor Glenn Youngkin After the barbaric terrorist attack in Israel, Governor Glenn Youngkin met with the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater to discuss the work ahead of us to end antisemitism and reaffirm Virginia's commitment to standing with Israel. At a time when true evil presents itself, we must come together to reject hate in all forms. Governor Youngkin thanked him for his service to America and shared an embrace with Happy before he celebrates his 100th birthday in December! Governor Glenn Youngkin is working to make Virginia the best place for America's veterans and military retirees to live, work, and raise a family. This week Governor Youngkin stopped by Sundae Scoop, a veteran-owned small business in Virginia Beach, to celebrate the progress being made to ensure Virginia Veterans are able to keep more of their hard-earned money.    Governor Youngkin has enacted additional tax relief for the vast number of military retirees who call Virginia home. Reducing the tax burden on military retirees was a promise Governor Youngkin made early on, and that is another promise he has kept.  READ MORE HERE In celebration of "Day of the Girl" earlier this week, First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin highlighted important resources and nonprofits from a recent Sisterhood reception held in Richmond, VA.   Sisterhood gatherings are a staple in the Strengthen the Spirit of Women+girls (W+g) initiative and serve as important opportunities for women and organizations to join in fellowship and a shared commitment to uplifting and supporting women and girls in behavioral health/wellbeing & workforce preparedness.  Richmond's gathering included over 100 women and more than a dozen organizations dedicated to adequate healthcare, safe places to heal physically and emotionally, quality early childhood education and enrichment programs, support for victims of domestic violence, advocacy rights, free athletic shoes, and more.  As a special treat, Secretary of Education Aimee Rogstad Guidera joined us to speak about education in the Commonwealth.   The First Lady remains steadfast in commitment to supporting and especially to celebrating – women and girls!  The First Lady also participated in plans to launch a new joint effort between her office, the Petersburg Blandford Academy, Petersburg's Communities in Schools (CIS), the Petersburg Women's Club, and a small group of volunteers to bring to life the "Girls with Pearls" program.  This novel program is built on the premise that sixth-grade learners benefit from engagement with mentors, and mentors are equally blessed by spending time with inquisitive young girls.  Girls with Pearls is designed around once-monthly gatherings at which socializing and engaging on health and wellbeing topics merge.  At the end of the school year, those girls who complete the program will be awarded a strand of pearls — a symbol of solidarity and sisterhood. With less than one month until Election Day, Governor Youngkin is traveling across Virginia, rallying with candidates for the House and Senate and encouraging Virginians to vote early through Secure Your Vote Virginia and vote Republican in the upcoming General Assembly elections.   In the past week, Youngkin marched in the Glen Allen Day parade with Senator Siobhan Dunnavant, attended the Prince George Ruritan Shrimp Fest with Delegate Kim Taylor, rallied alongside Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears at the Prince William County GOP BBQ, and joined Delegate Karen Greenhalgh, Kevin Adams, and Andy Pittman to get-out-the-vote with the Filipino American Community in Virginia Beach! FAR-LEFT VIRGINIA DEMOCRATS CONTINUE TO SHAMELESSLY LIE TO DISTRACT FROM THEIR EXTREME POSITION ON ABORTION  With no vision to offer the Commonwealth in this election and nothing to inspire Virginians to vote for their extreme candidates, Virginia Democrats are reverting to their tired tactics of overt falsehoods and flagrant fearmongering.    "Far-left Virginia Democrats continue to push shameless, demonstrably false lies to distract from their extreme position that elective abortions should be allowed in Virginia up until the moment of birth and that if a baby survives an abortion, they should not receive medical care. Joel Griffin's ad is just the latest desperate and despicable attempt to mislead voters. It will not work.     "Virginians know that Republicans are uniting behind Governor Youngkin's commonsense position that we should protect life at 15 weeks when a baby can feel pain, with exceptions for rape, incest, and when the mother's life is at risk.  Democrats are offering no plan for Virginia's future, just an extreme agenda that is far, far out of touch with where voters really are.  It's time they stop the desperate lies." said Spirit of Virginia Chairman Dave Rexrode.      Let's debunk every false claim in this ad using the same citations Joel Griffin does.  :07 (Citation - Tara Durant Facebook post, 6/24/2022)    LIE: "Tara Durant supports letting Virginia ban abortion with no exceptions."   TRUTH: Here is the exact post from Tara Durant on June 24, 2022 - "Today is a great day for life. While this decision does not change the law in Virginia, we know the majority of Virginians are united on the most basic principles regarding abortion: all of us want fewer abortions. As a mother of three beautiful children, I look forward to working with Governor Youngkin and fellow members of the General Assembly to affirm protections for the unborn and supporting and caring for mothers in the Commonwealth. Please pray for peace and the safety of our justices and our nation."  :12 (Citation - HB 1795 Passage Vote, 2/7/2023)   LIE: "Durant says doctors who disagree with her laws should be in jail."   TRUTH: Here is the exact summary of the bill cited in the ad, meant to protect infants who are born alive after an attempted abortion - "Abortion; born alive infant; treatment and care; penalty. Requires every health care provider licensed by the Board of Medicine who attempts to terminate a pregnancy to (i) exercise the same degree of professional skill, care, and diligence to preserve the life and health of a human infant who has been born alive following such attempt as a reasonably diligent and conscientious health care practitioner would render to any other child born alive at the same gestational age and (ii) take all reasonable steps to ensure the immediate transfer of the infant who has been born alive to a hospital for further medical care. A healthcare provider who fails to comply with the requirements of the bill is guilty of a Class 4 felony and may be subject to disciplinary action by the Board of Medicine. The bill also requires every hospital licensed by the Department of Health to establish a protocol for the treatment and care of a human infant who has been born alive following an attempt to terminate a pregnancy and for the immediate reporting to law enforcement of any failure to provide such required treatment and care." :17 (Citation - Tara Durant Facebook post, 6/24/2022)    LIE: "She supports letting Virginia force a 10-year-old rape victim to carry to term."   TRUTH: Again, here is the exact post from Tara Durant that they are citing in the ad: "Today is a great day for life. While this decision does not change the law in Virginia, we know the majority of Virginians are united on the most basic principles regarding abortion: all of us want fewer abortions. As a mother of three beautiful children, I look forward to working with Governor Youngkin and fellow members of the General Assembly to affirm protections for the unborn, and supporting and caring for mothers in the Commonwealth. Please pray for peace and the safety of our justices and our nation."  The citations used in this ad in no way support the ridiculous claims being made about Tara Durant's position. Joel Griffin is not the only Virginia Democrat engaging in provable lies.     Take this ad from Virginia House Democrats in August.     The ad fearmongers about a "total abortion ban," even though the Fox 5 DC story Democrats cite in their ad, disproves the entire premise of their message. They lazily cite a chyron instead of the actual substance of the news report.    Here's Youngkin's quote from that same story: "We've put forth a 15-week bill that protects life when a child can feel pain. I think this is a moment for us to come together and not be divided, and I'm hopeful that there will be a constructive discussion here."    Or take this mailer from Virginia Democrats against Riley Shaia. Virginia Democrats are reaching all the way back to 2011 to make their absurd "no abortion, no exception" claims. The citation they're using for the first bullet in the mailer - "To ban abortion with no exceptions" - is from a 2011 bill. Here's the actual link from the mailer: https://lis.virginia.gov/cgi-bin/legp604.exe?ses=111&typ=bil&val=hb1440    Democrats are using decade-old bills to distract from their extreme position on this issue, which they've taken repeatedly and which they've taken recently.     In 2019, 20 Virginia Democrats co-sponsored Delegate Kathy Tran's bill in the House to allow abortion until the moment of birth.  Here's Kathy Tran discussing this bill in her own words:    How late in the third trimester could a physician perform an abortion?      Kathy Tran: "Through the third trimester. The third trimester goes all the way up to 40 weeks."      But to the end of the third trimester?      Kathy Tran: "Yep. I don't think we have a limit in the bill."      So, where it's obvious that a woman is about to give birth, she has physical signs that she is about to give birth, and she's dilating, would that still be a point at which she could request an abortion?      Kathy Tran: "My bill would allow that. Yes."   And just this year, 21 Virginia Democrats voted to pass an amendment in the Virginia Senate that would enshrine abortion without limits in Virginia's constitution.   Far-left Virginia Democrats are lying about the Republican position on abortion because Republicans are uniting behind Governor Youngkin's commonsense position, which he has stated repeatedly and without equivocation:    Governor Youngkin: "I think where common sense brings us together is around a 15-week bill that protects life when a child can feel pain... I believe in exceptions in the case of rape, incest, and when the mother's life is at risk."  Paid for by Spirit of Virginia   Spirit of Virginia, PO Box 3950, Merrifield, VA 22116 This message was sent to alexanderofyork@yorkteaparty.org.
