April 29, 2015 – May 7, 2015 Iran seized and held a Marshall Islands flagged 837-foot container ship the Maersk Tigris in the Strait of Hormuz. The US has full authority and responsibility for security and defense of the Marshall Islands. Constitutionally a treaty calls for ratification by 2/3rds of the Senate.  The Iran Nuclear Deal has been deemed not a treaty because it is a multi-party agreement. Was the North Atlantic Treaty that set up NATO signed by the U.S. and 11 other countries not a treaty? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet but this Iran Nuclear Deal stinks, it is all thorns and rotten petals. The Republican leadership has relinquished its treaty powers so now we need 2/3rds of both the Senate and House to prevent the deals implementation. My researched opinion is that Iran is very close to being able to launch a nuclear bomb. This agreement releases 150 billion to them which I believe will be used for that effort. I think that scrapping this deal and doubling down on sanctions may give the protesters a chance to start a revolution. If this deal is to be rejected we must get 13 Democratic Senators and 44 Democratic Representatives in the House and all of the Republicans to override a presidential veto. I have developed a timeline of relevant facts to jog your memory of how we got into this mess. If you share my opinion on the urgency of rejecting this deal please share this information with every Democrat that you know so that they may persuade their elected officials to vote against this flawed deal.  January 1979 Jimmy Carter deploys 12 F-15s to show support for Saudi Arabia after the Shah of Iran was deposed but announced they were unarmed, at which time Saudi Arabia sent them back. November 4, 1979 – January 20, 1981 Iranians including Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stormed U.S. embassy in Tehran and held Americans hostage for 444 days. Va. Rep. Barbara Comstock Favors Constituents in Opposing Iran Deal     By John Gizzi and Joely Friedman                                       Monday, 17 Aug 2015 10:39 AM As Congress adjourned for its summer recess, freshman Rep. Barbara Comstock was emerging as one of its most vigorous opponents of the proposed Iran nuclear deal. "I hear from people constantly and they are talking about this," said the Virginia Republican, whose commute back to her Northern Virginia district is a 20- to 30-minute drive and thus she is exposed to opinions of constituents on a daily basis. In an interview with Newsmax days before the recess began, Comstock said she listens to the increasingly vocal opinions of constituents on the Iran agreement, and they are coming from more locales than her town meetings or speeches at Rotary luncheons. "They are worried that no matter what the Tehran regime promises, we're going to get a nuclear Iran," she told us. "And then we can't get the genie back in the bottle, no matter what the administration says." The freshman congresswoman added that her Iranian constituents "express their belief to me, over and over, that their country was hijacked by the Islamic revolution. There is a broad consensus in their community that we should increase the sanctions on Iran rather than take them back." Despite the pressure the administration is putting on Democratic lawmakers to OK the deal, said Comstock, "their spokesmen, such as [Secretary of State] John Kerry, are just not making a compelling argument." Along with listening to her constituents on this increasingly incendiary topic, Comstock plans to make her first trip to Israel, where she expects to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. She said: "That's someone who knows how to make a compelling argument — no deal is better than a bad one." When Congress returns to work after Labor Day, Comstock — only the third Republican House member from the Old Dominion State who is a woman — is likely to be a front-and-center voice against House approval of the controversial Iran deal. But taking on controversial issues is something she has spent a good part of her adult life doing. Barbara Comstock Worked for Ted Kennedy Politics, it seems, has been in Barbara Burns Comstock's blood. A graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont and Georgetown University Law School, she settled in Northern Virginia, married and became a mother of three. When she moved to Virginia, Comstock met and volunteered for Republican Rep. Frank Wolf and later joined his staff on Capitol Hill. Comstock first appeared on the conservative radar screen in the 1990s when, as senior counsel to the House Committee on Government Reform, she was in the forefront of the probe into the early scandals surrounding Bill and Hillary Clinton. The Arkansas land deal known as Whitewater was a particular focus of the panel and of Comstock. In 2000, she oversaw opposition research for George W. Bush’s presidential campaign and was later director of public affairs at the U.S. Department of Justice under Attorney General John Ashcroft. Comstock eventually launched her own business and was a key strategist in the 2012 presidential campaign of Mitt Romney. But the Massachusetts native actually served in law school as an intern on the staff of her state's Sen. Ted Kennedy. "We all have to start somewhere," she said.  At the time, Comstock was a Democrat who came from a Democratic family in Massachusetts. But while working for Kennedy, she realized her values and views were not Democratic at all and she soon became a Republican.  With the respect Comstock won among fellow conservatives and her increasingly visible role as a spokeswoman for conservative causes, it was only natural that she would make a run for office herself. That came in 2009, when she first won election to the Virginia House of Delegates by unseating Democratic incumbent Margaret Vanderhye. In 2014, when mentor and friend Wolf announced his retirement from Congress after 34 years, Delegate Comstock loomed large as the Republican heir apparent. But she had to work for the seat. First, she topped a six-candidate GOP primary field with 54 percent of the vote. Sensing a possible pickup of a House seat, national Democrats promoted Fairfax County Supervisor John Foust, and money from organized labor and environmental activists flowed into his coffers. Foust, whose commercials slammed Comstock for her pro-life views, made a tactical blunder in the fall when his campaign charged that the Republican nominee "never had a real job." In a district where Comstock's experience is not uncommon among women who work in government and politics while raising a family, the Democrat clearly stumbled. "But that's not why I won," said Comstock, who rolled up 56 percent of the vote last fall. "I knocked on 10,000 doors and always talked about jobs and the economy and the lack of a real recovery that we're experiencing. The agenda of lower taxes and tax reform resonated with people here. "And over and over again, I heard from people who had real horror stories about dealing with Obamacare. An auto mechanic in Leesburg told me that he had to pay $900 a month for health insurance under new regulations and said, 'that's my rent.'" The GOP lawmaker calls for repealing Obamacare "every way we can — getting rid of the Medical Device Tax, for example. Yes, it will take a Republican president to sign repeal, but until then anyone I can rescue from Obamacare, I will."  As chairman of the Science, Space, and Technology Subcommittee on Research and Technology, Comstock is concerned with ideas and opportunities for the jobs of the 21st century. The key to the future, she says, "is how to use technology and private investment for tomorrow." Inevitably, she is asked about what the press calls "women's issues." "I approach all issues as women's issues," Comstock said. "Technology, medical reform, and entrepreneurship are all women's issues. "You're always best off when you ask women their top concerns. And the top issues I hear from women are jobs and opportunity, healthcare, and increasingly, national security.  We have some strong women talking, and I would like to be their voice." Dear Robert: If you want to know what I really think about my son, Rand, then don't listen to our national media. Don't listen to the Big Government Washington insiders who'd love nothing more than another Bush/Clinton showdown in November of 2016. Let me be clear... There is not one candidate who has run for president in my lifetime who can say they fully share my commitment to liberty, Austrian economics, small government, and following the Constitution, than my son, Rand Paul. That's why I have wholeheartedly endorsed him. And it's why I wanted to write to you today to personally urge you to sign your Pledge of Support for Rand. I know the media likes to play this little game where they pit us, or certain views, against each other. Don't fall for it. They're trying to manufacture storylines at liberty's expense. You've spent years seeing how the media treated me. They aren't my friends and they aren't yours. So please don't waste your time or risk the massive gains you and I have made over the past eight years by suddenly believing Big Government apologists in our media are some sort of truth tellers. Remember, truth is treason in the empire of lies. And nowhere is that more true than when it comes to Washington, D.C. and their media mouthpieces. Even where Rand and I do have minor differences of opinion, I would take Rand's position over any of his opponents' in both parties every time. That's because he advocates diplomacy and negotiations, and opposes war. And Rand is the ONLY one in the race who is standing up for your Liberty, across the board. You certainly saw a great example of that in the first debate. Chris Christie tried to trample all over your rights in a false attack. Rand stopped him cold. And it's nothing new for Rand. Whether it's filibustering to stop drones or the Patriot Act, or introducing the Fourth Amendment Protection Act, no one has fought harder for your rights than Rand. And that's why, since the moment he announced his candidacy for President of the United States, our national media and the Big Government establishment has gone all-out to smear him or silence him. They push other Big Government Republicans as "frontrunners" while ignoring polls showing Rand leading Hillary Clinton in key presidential Battleground States. They make sure he gets the least amount of time in a national debate (that sounds familiar). They hype other candidates' easy access to Wall Street fat cats who leech off Big Government while ignoring the growing army of small donors Rand is building nationwide. That's because they fear Rand more than any other candidate. They know he is our best hope to restore liberty, limited government and the Bill of Rights and finally end the big spending status quo in Washington, D.C. Rand stood on the Senate floor for ten-and-a-half hours to force the Patriot Act to expire. Rand's stamina and determination called the nation's attention to President Obama's illegal and unconstitutional phone records collection. In the Senate, there is no greater champion of the Fourth Amendment and no one as fearless in staring down the establishment, Republican or Democrat. It was his action, and his alone, that forced the NSA's bulk metadata collection programs to expire under Section 215 of the "PATRIOT Act." Not only that, but he continued to stand strongly against Washington, D.C.'s "Plan B" scheme, the misnamed "USA FREEDOM Act"; When President Obama was insisting on arming the Islamic rebels in Syria and bombing Assad, Rand stood firm and challenged the President. He even took to Fox News' TV airwaves in a live national address to counter President Obama's attempt to "gin up" war fever, infuriating Big Government Republicans like Karl Rove! And don't forget Rand's first filibuster exposing the Obama administration's lawless use of drones, earning attacks from U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham and "wacko bird" name-calling from Senator John McCain. His historic 13-hour filibuster galvanized the American people unlike anything you and I have ever seen! He's also THE most stalwart opponent of the Federal Reserve in the Senate. He's fought against ObamaCare every step of the way. He's introduced budgets to slash spending and dig us out of our $18.3 TRILLION debt. He will keep our country out of senseless foreign wars that cost so many lives and bleed our treasury dry. He's not afraid to lay the blame for making worse the chaos we see today with ISIS and Iraq squarely at the feet of the neocons. And he's proven he's unafraid to stand up to anyone in Washington when the times call for it – even the leadership of his own party. Rand stands ready to lead, and to win. He has my full support.
