It's Still The Economy, Stupid........ A MUST READ!

It's Still The Economy, Stupid

We're regularly told by the Fed and defenders of the current incumbent president that the economy is humming along pretty well. Yes, there are concerns, we are told, the US is performing below its "potential output" level, but we've achieved the most that can be expected under the circumstances. People who write columns for the New York Times and who compile government reports are doing pretty well. Unfortunately for those who don't write columns or enjoy comfortable government jobs, things seem less rosy.

In fact, in an economy with a rising cost of living (especially in housing), stagnant real wages, and falling worker productivity, many in the so-called working class are very, very worried about the future.

And this, The Washington Post reports, is a reason that Donald Trump is doing so well in the polls:

In a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll, Trump won support from nearly a third of Republican voters and Republican-leaning independents without college degrees, compared to just 8 percent of Republican college grads. (That education gap has been smaller, but still prevalent, in other surveys.)

Non-college grads have struggled since the turn of the century: Economist Robert Shapiro estimates that incomes stagnated or declined from 2002 to 2013 for American households headed by workers without a degree, a marked departure from prior decades.

A CBS poll this week showed more than 7 in 10 Republican voters are confident in Trump's economic decisions, well above any other Republican candidate.

We know that in the current economy, workers with college degrees have a much lower unemployment rate than workers without college degrees. Thus, we could extrapolate from this demographic data that workers with less secure employment tend to favor Trump more than those who feel secure in their jobs.

Trump has hit on the tried and true strategy that got Clinton elected in 1992: "It's the economy, stupid." The economy isn't doing nearly as well as the educated and elite groups think it is, and the lower end of the economic spectrum knows it. Thus, Trump, who is one of the few candidates willing to speak radically on the issue, is getting a lot of support from those groups.

Like Clinton, however, Trump is unfortunately offering the wrong remedy to the problem. Slapping huge tariffs on imports and micro-managing the labor supply via immigration controls won't create economic growth, bring down unemployment, or spur entrepreneurship.

But who's offering any other alternative remedy?

Most Republicans want nothing more than mild tinkering with the economy. They want to "fix" Obamacare or maybe reduce taxes a little (while increasing deficit spending). And the central bank is off limits. So, anyone who's actually concerned about his economic future just yawns. The Democrats, constrained by being the party in power, must simultaneously claim that things are good, while also calling for just a little more of what's already been happening the last eight years.

Thus, it's easy to see why Trump looks good to many by comparison. It would be nice to see a candidate come out for large-scale repeal of government regulations, taxes, and other measures against what's really hobbling the economy. But, that would upset the interest-group apple cart too much, and be political suicide. So it's back to targeting foreigners and foreign countries.

Jeb Bush and the Common Core Debacle
-by Remso Martinez

During the first round of the 2016 GOP presidential debates, Jeb Bush was pressured by the moderators to explain his history of pushing for Common Core implementation across the country. In his statement, Bush said:

“I don’t believe the federal government should be involved in the creation of standards directly or indirectly, the creation of curriculum or content. It is clearly a state responsibility. I’m for higher standards…”

In his statement though, Bush avoided the specific answer the moderators wanted, which was whether or not he did or did not endorse the current Common Core curricula be adopted by various states. This isn't the first time Bush has dodged the question, back in December of 2014 Bush had this to say about the implementation of off a common curricula adopted by states. Read more here...

FreedomWorks' Congressman of the Month - John Fleming
- by Logan Albright

Each month, FreedomWorks will spotlight a Member of Congress who embodies our key principles of less government, lower taxes, and more freedom. For the inaugural edition of FreedomWorks’ Congressman of the Month program, we’re highlighting Rep. John Fleming of Louisiana. Fleming was one of the first to join the House Freedom Caucus, and has been a consistent voice for liberty in Congress, since he was first elected in 2008.

A physician by trade, Fleming has demonstrated a willingness to lead on the health care debate that many of his colleagues lack. In 2013, he worked with the Republican Study Committee to introduce the American Health Care Reform Act, one of the most conservative alternatives to ObamaCare to be seriously proposed. Fleming was also a key player in the 2013 fight to defund ObamaCare. Read more here...

Why the Meadows Fight Matters
- by Adam Brandon via The Hill

When Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) introduced a resolution calling for Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to step down, a lot of people were eager to dismiss his actions as those of a lone loon with nothing to lose. When a member of Congress so publicly challenges the leadership of their own party, it’s always a long shot, but it’s important to understand why what Meadows is asking is neither crazy, nor unreasonable.

Meadows’ list of grievances, if one takes the time to read it, does not read like some fringe manifesto. What Meadows is asking for is what all of Congress should be demanding, a fair and open process with the sort of oversight and accountability that is appropriate for the country’s principal lawmaking body. Why Socialist Bernie Sanders is Wrong about Health Care Being a Human Right
- by Remso Martinez

Last week, National Nurses United (NNU) hosted a rally to celebrate the anniversary of Medicare. During the rally, NNU took the opportunity to host Independent-Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for president. Sander's speech to the crowd shed further light on his socialist views on the future of healthcare in the United States.

In his speech, Sander's stated that “healthcare is a right, not a privilege of all Americans", which is far from the truth. The debate over whether or not the right to life correlates with the right to health care has been an issue since the late 1800's. The truth of the matter is that while you do have the right to your life (meaning no one has the right to murder you, force you into slavery, dictate the terms of your existence through coercion or forced aggression), this right is what is known to philosophers as a negative right; while the right to purchase and receive health care is a positive right. First, we must define what is a right, before we go any further. Read more here...

Congress is Closer Than Ever to Enacting Justice Reform
- by Jason Pye

The House of Representatives has already adjourned for the August recess. The Senate is expected to finish up its business this week before members leave Washington. The recess will not be a quiet one for members. They are gearing up for several tricky legislative initiatives and battles when they return in September, among which will be justice reform.

The momentum for justice reform has been building over the last several months, and it appears as though the will exists to get something big done before the end of the year. Most of the discussions revolve around some kind of front-end sentencing reform, including the "safety valve" exception to mandatory minimum sentences for nonviolent offenders, and back-end reentry reform for offenders who, through rehabilitative programs, have demonstrated that they are at low-risk of committing another crime. McConnell Preemptively Surrenders in Spending Fight
- by Logan Albright

In order to effectively negotiate, it’s important to come to the table from a position of strength. You have to make the other side believe that you will fight for your priorities and not take no for an answer. Most importantly, you should never let your opponent know that you’re prepared to cave at the drop of a hat, even if you are.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has already made this cardinal mistake in the government funding battle scheduled for later this year. Read more here...

EPA: A Rogue Agency
- by Michael Greibrok

The Fourth Circuit has joined a growing number of courts, including the Supreme Court, in slapping down actions by the EPA. The court recently denied the EPA’s challenge to a discovery order from a federal judge in West Virginia.

The case, Murray Energy Corp. et al. v. Gina McCarthy, involves §321 of the Clean Air Act. This section creates a nondiscretionary duty for the EPA to conduct continuing evaluations of potential loss or shifts in employment due to EPA regulations under authority of the Clean Air Act. Critical time

Robert:

Despite less than five minutes in total speaking time Thursday night, the American people saw what my campaign is all about during that all-important debate.

This campaign is about doing whatever it takes to finally dismantle and destroy the entire Washington Machine that's destroying the precious freedoms our founders handed down to us.

And I'm not backing down in the face of attacks from anyone.

But Robert, I need your action to help me bring my vision to every town and city in America.

Will you please agree to your most generous gift of $20.16 TODAY?

This is a critical time. Many Americans just start zeroing in on the campaign for President with the launch of the presidential debates.

So your support today is critical.

The truth is, I don't believe the media can silence you and me -- no matter how hard they try.

Every time the media or Big Government apologists in BOTH parties have tried to destroy the liberty movement over the past few years, we've only gotten stronger.

More Americans keep flocking to our message of liberty and limited government as we call out Washington, D.C.'s spending and spying and outrageous assaults on our Bill of Rights.

They're ready for a President who will FIGHT to:

*** CUT TAXES AND SPENDING. My Fair and Flat Tax plan will blow up the tax code and start over, return $2 TRILLION to the American people over ten years, grow our GDP by a whopping 10%, and result in at least 1.4 million new jobs;

*** PASS TERM LIMITS to end the reign of career politicians in Washington, D.C.;

*** FORCE MEMBERS OF CONGRESS TO READ THE BILLS THEY VOTE ON, and stop their habit of ramming thousand-page bills into law at the last minute before anyone knows what's in them;

*** REPEAL ALL OF OBAMACARE to stop the soaring health insurance premium costs, policy cancellations, shuttered hospitals, and poorer quality healthcare Americans are now experiencing;

*** AUDIT THE FEDERAL RESERVE to end the "print-now, ask-questions-later" policies that result in never-ending boom-bust economic cycles, corruption, and cronyism;

*** PROTECT THE ENTIRE BILL OF RIGHTS. That means protecting our religious liberties, political speech, gun rights, and our Fourth Amendment right to privacy from government spying.

Robert, I'm going to ensure our message grows louder and louder.

But I'm counting on your support.

Please agree to your most generous contribution of $20.16 TODAY!

The first punches were thrown

Robert:

The field is set. The first punches were thrown during the first Republican presidential debate in Cleveland.

And the American people are now "locking in."

With more debate fireworks and media SMEARS on my campaign right around the corner, I'm counting on your IMMEDIATE action.

Will you please click here to sign your STAND WITH RAND Supporter's Pledge right away?

I believe your action today can give my campaign the vital burst of post-debate momentum I need heading into the FEC's End of Quarter reporting period next month.

But it's absolutely critical you act IMMEDIATELY.

This is crunch time. The stakes are getting higher every single day. And it's anybody's race.

The national media and Big Government members of BOTH parties want more than anything to dismiss my message of liberty and limited government.

They tell us the Republican presidential nomination has already been decided – or at least narrowed down to a few "acceptable" Republicans. That those of us who believe in liberty and limited government should step aside for someone else "to get their turn."

All I can say is the race for the White House is not an electoral soap opera ruled by political bluebloods!

And I'm not just going to step aside so the Washington Machine can continue piling on our $18.3 TRILLION debt and assaulting our remaining constitutional liberties.

All those polls that show me leading Hillary Clinton in key primary states tell me the American people won't either.

I believe the American people are fed up with the status quo -- with the Washington Machine's constant spending, spying and scandals.

They're ready for a President who will FIGHT to:

*** CUT TAXES AND SPENDING. My Fair and Flat Tax plan will blow up the tax code and start over, return $2 TRILLION to the American people over ten years, grow our GDP by a whopping 10% and result in at least 1.4 million new jobs!

*** PASS TERM LIMITS to end the reign of career politicians in Washington, D.C.;

*** FORCE MEMBERS OF CONGRESS TO READ THE BILLS THEY VOTE ON, and stop their habit of ramming thousand-page bills into law at the last minute before anyone knows what's in them;

*** REPEAL ALL OF OBAMACARE to stop the soaring health insurance premium costs, policy cancellations, shuttered hospitals and poorer quality healthcare Americans are now experiencing;

*** AUDIT THE FEDERAL RESERVE to end the "print-now, ask-questions-later" policies that result in never-ending boom-bust economic cycles, corruption and cronyism;

*** PROTECT THE ENTIRE BILL OF RIGHTS. That means protecting our religious liberties, political speech, gun rights and our Fourth Amendment right to privacy from government spying.

This isn't a plan to "manage" Big Government and kick the can down the road until the entire American economy simply self-destructs.

It's a plan to END Big Government and RESTORE the freedom and prosperity that should be every American's birthright.

This is what has the media and Big Government apologists in BOTH parties scared.

It's why they're coming after me with everything they have.

It's why I've been attacked for standing up for our Constitution's Fourth Amendment.

For REFUSING to wave the white flag on ObamaCare. For demanding Washington, D.C. finally secures our border. For daring to call out pro-abortion Democrats for their extremism.

For rejecting the lie that the best way for our Republican Party to defeat Hillary Clinton is to be just like her.

In fact, The Hill has reported that the Democrat National Committee has attacked me more than any other Republican candidate for President!

I have no doubt that my opponents will continue ganging up on me with everything they have during the Republican debates as well.

But if you will continue to stand with me, I believe we can face down these assaults and WIN.

That's why I need to hear from you IMMEDIATELY.

With the launch of the presidential debates, many Americans are just now "tuning in" to the race for the White House.

That's why it's so critical my campaign can show a surge of momentum now.

Your STAND WITH RAND Supporter's Pledge will let me know you have my back, which will mean the world to me in the midst of all these attacks.

But I also must ask you to please chip in a financial contribution of $20.16 as well.

Your support will help me reach even more Americans with my message of liberty and limited government.

If my campaign can show a surge of momentum heading into next month's FEC End of Quarter deadline, I believe it will translate into a BIG fundraising boost just at this most critical time.

So every $1 you can give now could make up to $2, $3 or even $5 worth of impact!

That's why it's so critical you act at once.

Will you please sign your STAND WITH RAND Supporter's Pledge and chip in a contribution of $20.16?

I know I'm asking you to stretch. I'm asking all my supporters to please give as much as they can.

Robert, you've been so generous in the past, I want you to know that I wholeheartedly thank you for everything you've done.

But I need you in my corner right now.

If $20.16 is just too much, please agree to at least $10.

With the launch of the Republican presidential debates, and next month's End of Quarter fundraising deadline rapidly approaching, it's absolutely vital that my campaign can show a surge of momentum.

So please sign your STAND WITH RAND Supporter's Directive. And, if possible, please agree to chip in a contribution of $20.16 IMMEDIATELY.

P.S. With the launch of the presidential debates, the American people are locking in to the race for the White House.

It's absolutely critical that my campaign shows a boost in post-debate momentum. If we can, it could translate into a big fundraising boost with the FEC's next End of Quarter Fundraising Deadline next month!

So will you please sign your STAND WITH RAND Supporter's Directive and chip in a financial contribution of $20.16 today?

Showtime

Robert:

As I write you, there are only two hours left until showtime.

Two hours until I take the stage with nine other GOP opponents in this battle for the Republican nomination for President.

These debates can catapult a strong candidate to the top of the polls. But a poor response to a slanted "gotcha" question by the media can end a campaign virtually overnight.

Robert, I know I'm going to be walking into a lion's den. But I'm prepared to give an uncompromising, unapologetic defense of the ideals of liberty that I know you and I share.

If you're with me, please sign your Republican Debate Mandate and agree to your most generous contribution of $20.16 or more at once.

I know it's easy to get caught up in the minutiae of day-to-day campaigning and never-ending political fights. But let's not forget about the big picture...

*** That ObamaCare is making American healthcare worse for millions of Americans;

*** That our government believes it should have the authority to spy on innocent American citizens at will;

*** That members of Congress somehow can manage to continue sending our tax dollars to an organization that routinely aborts unborn children, dismembers them, and sells off their body parts for profit;

*** That we're over $18 TRILLION in debt and out-of-control spending continues like never before;

It seems everything you and I treasure today is under attack, and the belief in individual liberty that has made this nation the greatest and freest country in human history, seems to be dying before our eyes.

Robert, the ugly truth of the matter is, it's members of BOTH parties who have brought our nation to the brink.

I was happy with my life back home in Kentucky as a physician. I loved the time I was able to spend with my wife Kelley and our kids.

But I ran for the U.S. Senate because I believed good people must do something. We all must do something if we are to save our liberties for ourselves and the next generation.

As I prepare to take the stage tonight in the first debate of the 2016 Republican Presidential nominating contest, it's still that big picture I'm most concerned with.

It's why I've decided to run for President.

With time running out, I must ask you one more time to please stand with me.

Please sign your Republican Debate Mandate and return it to me along with your most generous contribution of $20.16 or more today.

It would mean the world to me.
