Morning Briefing For March 6, 2013
1. Today, House Conservatives Will Prove They Are the Problem Yesterday, the White House announced it would stop White House tours in response to sequestration. Congressman Louie Gohmert of Texas responded by offering an amendment to the pending continuing resolution that would prohibit federal dollars spent to cover the costs of President Obama's golf games. Speaker John Boehner and the Republican Leaders ruled that Congressman Gohmert's amendment was not relevant to the continuing resolution and threw it out. Today, House conservatives will join with their Republican colleagues to vote on what is called a "closed rule." This is a vote that will allow Republican leaders to bring to the floor of the House of Representatives the continuing resolution without having to deal with Congressman Gohmert's amendment. It will also prevent Republicans from being able to defund Obamacare. Today, House Republicans will vote on a rule in the House of Representatives that, once approved, will allow the continuing resolution to pass while enabling and funding Obamacare. House Conservatives will make it happen. In fact, House Conservatives who vote for the rule are voting to fund Obamcare. Passing the rule then conveniently voting against the actual continuing resolution cannot be given a pass. Today, conservative groups must set a new standard — voting for the rule on the continuing resolution must be scored against. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2. Coin-operated government Why should any self-respecting citizen agree that Uncle Sam must be paid off with fresh tax revenue, before he'll even consider cutting down on the fruit-fly sex studies and federally subsidized Star Trek conventions? After years of relentless federal growth – and just two months after massive tax increases, whose last-minute imposition is wreaking havoc among our already stressed-out tax serfs – why should it be unthinkable to call for some big spending cuts first? Notice how politicians of every stripe are perpetually promising to eliminate billions in waste, fraud, and abuse… but they never actually do it. That's always a carrot dangled above our heads, and we might just get a nibble, if we agree to close a few "tax loopholes" and pay Washington a few billion dollars more. Why should it be out-of-bounds to insist on that long-promised, top-down audit and reform before we entertain a moment's thought of tax increases? . . . please click here for the rest of the post → 3. Obama's Machiavellian Sequestration Pain Game: Putting Politics Over Public Safety I'm going to just state what is on a lot of people's minds (and lips) these days regarding the Obama Administration's handling of the sequestration cuts: If I didn't know any better–I don't, by the way–I would wager a bet that the current occupants of the West Wing and their DNC accomplices are hoping that, as a result of certain sequestration cuts made, someone somewhere will die. . . . please click here for the rest of the post → 4. Planned Parenthood Clinic Faces Lawsuit Claiming Negligence, Battery A doctor at Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains allegedly performed an abortion with no anesthesia against the will of Colorado Springs resident Ayanna Byer, according to charges in a lawsuit Byer filed on February 6. Byer's suit brings claims of negligence, battery, uninformed consent, false imprisonment, extreme and outrageous conduct (emotional distress), and breach of fiduciary duty against the Planned Parenthood facility and a doctor identified in the complaint only as "Dr. John Doe." . . . please click here for the rest of the post → 5. Medicare Trustee Cautions States on Obamacare Medicaid Expansion Medicare Board of Trustees member Charles Blahous released a Mercatus Center report on March 5 recommending states take advantage of the U.S. Supreme Court's June 2012 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) ruling by mostly rejecting the law's Medicaid expansion. Blahous concluded that states "all appear to face one common, powerful incentive arising from the court's ruling: to decline to cover childless adults at or above the FPL [federal poverty line] under Medicaid." . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

Morning Briefing: Obamacare and Guns
Morning Briefing For March 4, 2013
1. Defund Obamacare Now! oHouse Republicans plan to bring a Continuing Resolution to the floor, which will fund the federal government for the rest of the fiscal year. If nothing is done to stop them, GOP leaders plan to put forth a clean CR that funds Obamacare. This is unacceptable. With health insurance premiums skyrocketing, employers dumping workers from health plans, and new reports predicting trillions in new debt as a result of Obamacare, we must defund this behemoth before it fully takes effect next year. Many of the new members pledged to defund Obamacare, yet they have dithered for two years in the hopes that it would be struck down by the Supreme Court or that Republicans would win the White House. In fact, 105 current members of the House GOP Conference signed a letter last August committing to defund Obamacare. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2. Colorado Senate Meeting to Restrict 2nd Amendment TODAY Colorado Democrats have gone too far, and the time to stop them is now. On Monday morning the Colorado Senate will take up a package of anti-second amendment measures, four of which have already been passed in the House. It is time for conservatives to take a stand against this assault on our rights. The Democrats in Colorado control both chambers of the legislature and the Governor's office. They assume that this gives them the right to subvert your constitutional rights. They seek to limit your capability to defend yourself by banning concealed carry on campuses and limiting the capacity of magazines. They intend to make it more difficult to procure a firearm through an expansion of background checks and increased fees, read taxes, on the same. Senate President John Morse has gone so far as to introduce legislation which blatantly contradicts federal law. Morse, with no regard for the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, intends to make gun owners, sellers, and manufacturers liable for any damages that occur from the discharge of a weapon they owned, sold, or produced. So what can you do? Michael Brown, a talk radio host in the Denver area, is calling on the people of Colorado to show up en masse at the State Capitol TODAY and then do two things when you get there. . . . please click here for the rest of the post → 3. Texas House Republicans Meet TODAY to Plot Cave on Obamacare Empower Texans brings rather troubling news that today Texas State House of Representatives Republicans will meet at 1p.m. CT to begin "discussing" caving on Obamacare and expanding Medicaid. Governor Rick Perry is solid on the issue, but if enough members of the Texas legislature disagree with him, they could override him. The ring leader is apparently State Rep. Lois Kolkhorst, along with Representative John Zerwas. If you live in Texas, go to the RedState Action Center RIGHT NOW and email members of the Texas State House of Representatives. Tell them to oppose the Medicaid expansion. . . . please click here for the rest of the post → 4. Missouri State Senators Mike Parson and Tom Dempsey Begin Obamacare Sellout Missouri State Senators Mike Parson and Tom Dempsey are working toward a cave on Obamacare as best they can in Missouri. Senator Parson has filed SB 456, a "shell" of legislation into which multiple sources in and around the Missouri legislator expect they'll put an expansion of Medicaid. Over 70% of Missourians voted to oppose implementation of Obamacare in a ballot initiative, but several people I've spoken to said this legislation would act as an end run around the will of the people and be focused on Medicaid, without focusing on state exchanges, mandates, etc. The result would still be the same. The Missouri Senate President has handpicked a committee to look at expansion of Medicaid in Missouri and Speaker Timothy Jones has set up a working group. All these acts are happening in unison and many are fearful there'll be a coordinated rush to push through Medicaid expansion before voters can rally. If you live in Missouri, go to the RedState Action Center right now and take action to stop the legislature from expanding Medicaid. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
